Should We Be Pushing The "Bin Laden 'surrounded'" Story ???
LBN Thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=377237

Story: http://www.sundaytelegraph.news.com.au/story/0,9353,8752173-28778,00.html

I'm thinking that if we could get this story spread wide and fast in the U.S. media (big if), we might set the country's expectations very high. People would start to ask, "Why don't they just go in and get him?" "What's taking so long?" Etc...

If he really is there and is captured, get it over with now, while there is plenty of time left before the election. IOW - One less October Surprise possibility.

If he is really there and they are unable to get him, one more sign of Bush incompetence.

And... If he is not there, one more sign of lying\incompetence\WMD bullshit which should piss just about everybody off!!!

Thoughts???

1. I took heart at a Jay Leno joke
something like, Bush's poll numbers are so low, he had to ask for the bin Laden capture to be moved up a few weeks.

Got a big laugh, too. :-)

2. Disinfo?
I kinda wonder if these reports that we have Bin Laden boxed in aren't disinfo designed to provoke a response from him or his network. Not necessarily to provoke an attempted terrorist attack by them, but rather to stir them up a bit and bring them out of hiding, or increase their movements or communications with each other so that we might actually figure out where they are...

Just a hypothesis...

14. It would be my guess the CIA know exactly where he is.
It would be my guess he is not in some mountainous region on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border.

4. Yes! We should be spreading it like wildfire
We need to devalue the coming capture or killing of Bin Laden. The best way is to lean hard on the story that he's already surrounded and it's just a matter of a short time before he's taken--if Bush* does his job.

We also need to constantly repeat Bush*s claim that Bin Laden is no longer a priority:

"I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
George W. Bush, March 13, 2002

5. Obviously It's the solders who shall prevail...
Bush only hindered a capture or killing of OBL by diverting most of are resources to Iraq. How many lives may have been saved if we really focused on OBL and Al Qaeda instead of Iraq? This is Bush's huge failure.

6. Time to play offense
Maybe a cooperative reporter can ask a prominent dem (or a presidential candidate) about the rumor, and for them to rant about how it'd be traitorous to let OBL run free (even if boxed in) 'cause he might be issuing directions and strengthening his network.. play it up a bit in the national "press" and force their hand, or force a denial.

8. Well, if he's alive, of COURSE he's "surrounded". Every person on the
planet is surrounded. You, me, all of us. The question is of course, how big is the circle? In any case, we all oughta be ready for OBL or somebody who looks like him to be "captured" sometime before November.
But it's a big risk for the Repugs...an appearance, or a tape -afterward- would be awfully embarrassing.

11. !

That's a good point. I don't know what kind of cooperation we would have from Pakistan were this to be true...

10. Actually, they are so close, he may be captured tomorrow...
:) Surely before the week is over. They will not let him escape this time. You can bet on it....I hope ??? Is that what you mean by raising 'expectations"?

12. Let's bring the story of Bora Bora back too.
Most of America doesn't know that long before Bush started the public push to oust Saddam, we had Osama and other high ranking Al Qaeda cornered in Bora Bora. For some highly questionable reasons supposedly having to do with Pakistan secret police also being trapped there, coalition forces allowed an airlift to occur which got grossly out of hand and allowed hundreds or even thousands of people, including most likely OBL to escape.

In retrospect, it looks like that with OBL in hand, it would have been a lot harder to sell the war against Saddam, so perhaps they decided that they had to let OBL go for the sake of enacting PNACs Pax Americana.

This malfeasance went under the radar when it happened. Now would be a good time to remind people.

13. I recall they had him pinpointed in something like a 11-square mile...
area....but he escaped. But they will catch him this time. Otherwise, it is simply a short-lived diversion. :)

20. Bush let the cat out of the bag
In his interview with Russert, he dropped a hint. Did you notice?

I think that even if it happens, it won't help him. It'll be like Saddam.

21. If more evidence of this comes out, we SHOULD
spread it... forces Bush/Rove's hand to turn "October surprise" into "March surprise" or else explain why they would take a chance sitting on the guy and not capturing.

I would imagine with all the military guys being stop lossed there's enough disgruntled grunts that it would be very hard to keep a secret like this...

22. I'm 100 percent sure they know where he is--see this link
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=1099324

and add to it the stories linked above and the current series in the WP, the first part of which balmed Clinton for not getting him.

Whatever the oopposite of a tin-foil hatter is, I'm it. But I'm 100% convinced they know where he is, and are just waiting for the right time. Spread this far and wide.
