Interesting article on Bush and Dominionist Church/State
I found an interesting article written by Katherine Yurica and Laurie Hall titled, "The Despoiling of America: How George W. Bush became the head of the new Dominionist Church/State"

This article really opened my eyes. I knew some, and suspected some more, but WOW, did my eyes pop out and my jaw drop after reading this piece.

All the more reason to be ABB.

3. Yikes!
http://www.yuricareport.com/Dominionism/TheDespoilingOfAmerica.htm

American Christianity had already seen extremes. For Dominionists, perhaps the single most important event in the last half of the twentieth century occurred when the Reverend Jim Jones proved that the religious would follow their leader to Guyana and even further, to their deaths. That fact could hardly have escaped the notice of even the dullest of politically minded preachers.

Indeed, Jim Jones’ surreal power over his congregants leaps out from the grave even today. If a man desired to change the laws in America—to undo Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal for instance, and allow corporations the unbridled freedom they enjoyed prior to the Great Depression (which included the freedom to defraud, pillage, and to destroy the land with impunity on the way to gathering great fortunes), what better way to proceed than to cloak the corruption within a religion? If a few men wanted to establish an American empire and control the entire world, what better vehicle to carry them to their goal than to place their agenda within the context of a religion? Jim Jones proved religious people would support even immoral political deeds if their leaders found a way to frame those deeds as “God’s Will.” The idea was brilliant. Its framers knew they could glorify greed, hate, nationalism and even a Christian empire with ease.

5. This is definitely a *must read* !!!
This explains so much, connects so many dots. I'm vacillitating between speechlessness, deep foreboding, panic and nausea after reading this. How in the hell are we going to oust these insane traitors?

6. As an Atheist, this scares me to no end.
folks like me (and there at LEAST 30 million American who are either Atheist or Agnostic) are surely at risk if this ever came to pass. Dominion Theology is something that ANY progressive thinker should be adamant in preventing its influence. Old Testament, Biblical law is what they seek and the removal of opposing points of view and alternative lifestyles by violent means would be the norm. The idea that killing someone who refuses to think in a particular way hearkens back to the worst chapters in the history of civilization. In my opinion, the ONLY way the Human Race is going to evolve sufficiently to the point where no-one is considered expendable is for it to shed the overt superstition theologies rampant in the world today. Anyone that thinks their violent and repressive acts are justified and sanctioned by the almighty needs to have their head examined.

If belief in a supernatural, transcendent, all powerful Deity makes you a better person, one that is more compassionate, understanding, generous and patient, then i am all for it.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that many religions, radical Islam and Radical Xtianity in particular, teach new and improved ways to hate.

18. It's a danger for everyone, they'll just pick on atheists first
Then, when they've taken care of all the heretics, unbelievers, atheists and agnositcs, they'll turn on their own. They'll accuse any who are not "born again" of heresy, and force conversion on them. Then, just like the Spanish Inquisition, they'll question the conversions, since they were coerced, and go after the converts for not being authentic christians.

8. Holy Shit!! no pun intended
That was some of the best researched, scariest stuff I've ever read. You should have given it a snappier headline. This is really, really important!!

9. <Sitting here in stunned....almost paralyzed...disbelief.>
That article should be read by everyone...all over the world. If it were, there would likely be a lot of Dominionists getting "suicided", like the republicans have been doing to all those who are too knowledgeable about their filthy dealings. "The end justifies the means". <puke>

Holy crap! And the MASSIVE numbers of holy-rollers, and plain old greed-crazy people who think they're supporting the American dream, and being good Xians, who are buying into this crap...without any awareness of the outcome of their actions of support for this bunch!

O8) May Strauss and Machiavelli both be rotting in hell. May the rest of this crowd join them there soon.O8)

Something has to be done....AND SOON!

14. I read this article last night.
Subsequently I was up all night. The horrors of John Calvin, Leo Strauss and Machiavelli and their twisted ideology all feeding into each other then rolled into one big mess for the 21st century.

It sometimes seems we've been cursed and now are living in those interesting times I've heard about.

However, after reading this article it's made me even more resolved to wake people up and get the PNAC'ers and fundies voted out of office.

I think everyone needs to read this.

15. Another kick. I've been trying to tell people for a year
First got the word from DU conversations, then followed up with research of my own. It scared the bejayzus out of me, to use my grandmother's term. (Y'know, the Inquisition's monks were "good Christians" too--prayed every day and everything. Just liked to torture people to death to save their souls.) Since then, I occasionally use this sig line:

Psst. Who's this God that talks to George W. Bush? Hang on to your First Amendment--we're in for a bumpy ride. Pass it on.

17. oppose this legislation NOW
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1152944

please help keep this thread and the one above, with a link to contacts, so that people will take this seriously and TAKE ACTION NOW.

call your reps, please.

What I want to know is...is it possible to legally remove the reconstructionists from office NOW?

If not, then what recourse do Americans have when their so-called reps turn out to be traitors to democracy?

Is it possible to start recall petitions for every representative who has sponsored this act, and all who support it?
