As to the current war, I read last year that our youngsters who die in things like Humvee rollovers or helicopter crashes aren't counted as "combat deaths," because, y'know, it wasn't with guns blazing. Um, the way I see it is this: they wouldn't be dead if they weren't there, and they are just as dead as if they had gone Rambo-style.

I think something dreadful happened to Ms. Coulter in her formative years to make her such a hateful, disgusting human being. Some people say she does her act for money; I simply don't like to think someone could go as low as she does without serious mental defects. The woman needs intensive therapy and probably liberal doses of medication.

23. Oh those days of sitting around the beer hall at Khe Sahn

How I miss them... I was in the same unit as Max Cleland and involved in the same operation, the relief of Khe Sahn,. I find it very offensive towards me also. Like Khe Sahn was a walk in the park. By the way there were No Beer Halls at Khe Sahn but Medivacs were flying out pretty much every hour. There is Never a Time when a grenade could be found just laying around anywhere Stateside. Only in combat could this have ever happened. Only in Combat.

I saw a documentary about it a long time ago. It didn't look like a lot of fun.

25. It was a precurser to major battles ~ Tet

It was a Marine encampment about three miles from the DMZ and the marines were under continuous bombardment for seventy three days. They rarely saw daylight during those days. Finally after more than two months of total inactivity the Brass decided they needed some relief. I happened to be assigned to Bravo Company 2nd of the 12th Cav ~ 1st Cav Div. and we were the unit picked to be the relief force. Max Cleland was also in this unit though I don't recall him and not sure what company he was with. Khe Sahn was surrounded by more than three complete regiments of NVA (North Vietnamese Army) conventionial troops. These were no Viet Cong they were uniformed conventionial soldiers with very modern armament and equipment. They even had tanks. When I got to Khe Sahn there were two burnt out tank hulks within three hundred meters of the perimeter. It was a lot of death and destruction but no Beer Halls.
