Why do cartoonists seem to have the best grip on reality?

Borrowed from the San Francisco Chronicle web site. Rock on all you non-conformists (who wish to be wedded and become conformists - you all confuse me)!

2. Yeah, but he draws for the Los Angeles Times...

...and we North Californians know all about them South Californian types...

(For anyone who is NOT a Californian, this is typical good-natured banter, not mean or malicious or anything like that. And I'll never forgive my sister for marrying one of THEM.)

9. Very cool!

And I especially like the way he uses 50s stereotypical characters to really emphasize the irony.

Maybe I should run a poll on who the best political cartoonists are. I'd even include some of the right-wing nutjobs, just to be fair...

8. I forgot about the conservative cartoonists, though...
I like Lukovich as well.

But you were correct about the conservative cartoonists. Half the time they just make no damn sense at all, like this one from Chuck Asay of the Colorado Springs Gazette:

Right-wing idiocy...

4. Conservative political cartoonists get my blood boiling

much more than even the most vile conservative columnists and pundists. The picture is so much more powerful than the word, and the images conservative political cartoonists are almost always deliberately designed to deceive their viewers. I even emailed one who attempted to pass off an implicit link between 9-11 and Saddam Hussein and politely informed him of his sin. I never received a reply.
