A Trent Lott clone
Yesterday in the letter to the editor section in The Birmingham News, someone reported that he attended a town hall meeting where Alabama Senator Richard Shelby(R)said he believed that life was "pretty good" before the Supreme Court was presided over by Chief Justice Earl Warren. Warren was appointed Chief Justice in 1953. The next year the Warren Court decided the case of Brown v. Board of Education. This is the same as when Trent Lott made the statements about Sen. Strom Thurmond. This needs to brought up all over the internet the same way it was with Trent Lott. I encourage that anybody with a blog post this. I will do the same later today.

Here is the link to the letter to the editor. Just scroll down a little and you will see it. http://www.al.com/opinion/birminghamnews/letters.ssf?/base/opinion/107718585558020.xml

2. Careful what we wish for.
Certainly anyone should be called on their stupid statements.

However, I'd much rather have Lott as Senate Majority Leader than Frist, since Lott had at least some respect for the institution, while Frist is Shrub's lapdog.

Shelby has said the admin should release almost all of the redacted/Saudi section of the 911 report, etc., but I am not confident that his theoretical replacement would not be more in the mold of Jeff Sessions (yeccch).

3. OK . . . .
maybe we shouldn't go as far as we did with Lott, but I still think he should be called on this.

4. Agreed.
An embarrassing public apology, losing face with the Klan-types, would be delightful.

:)
