Pat Buchanan slams Richard Perle
and his new crappy book.

Pat calls it a formula for never ending war...

Why do I agree more and more with Pat? The sad thing is, on issues like trade and use of US power abroad, I agree with him more than many Democrats.

1. Buchanan
Buchanan has a lot of views I don't agree with, but on things like this, he always pulls through instead of just toeing the party line. I wish he would run again and split the fundie vote from Bush!

2. yeah, can't say I agree with him on social things
but he's no neo-con, that's for sure.

That article of his proclaims the death of neo-conservativism.

3. Buchanan is a traditional conservative
Not a neo-con. He's always been an isolationalist.

I also think that he's an objective political analyst who doesn't let his political views cloud his commentaries.

But I would never vote for him :)

4. Honest debate is possible with guys like him
because he hasn't gone out of his freaking mind like the neocons have. Buchanan is not a hate monger with Napoleonic delusions, just a conservative. And he's not a compulsive liar like Shrub and his goons.

5. I'll say this for Buchanan, he has principles and sticks to them
I disagree with most of them, but at least he is consistent and means what he says.

And on this we agree. The USA shouldn't be an empire.

6. He Strongly Opposed the Invasion of Iraq
and for that I have new-found respect for him. I don't particularly care for him, but he does make sense on a few issues. He does dare to buck the Regime from time to time. I think he secretly hates the Bush Cabal.

7. I posted a thread regarding Pat
once saying I felt guilty about liking him recently (and was flamed for it!)

He just appears a little more normal than your average repuke. He doesn't sputter out the insane vile that comes out people like Anthrax or Insannity. He's not one of ours, but he's tolerable; God, I NEVER thought I'd say that about Pat!!

10. I saw Chris Matthews nail him
and ask him if his views were actually closer to John Edwards than George Bush (I am assuming he is talking about free-trade and Iraq)

He just kind of sputtered and stuff, but he knew it was true!

14. "What's going on here?"
What's going on is that the loonies in the Bush* cabal are so far out in right field, that sane right wingers seem reasonable at times.

We are living under the most extreme right wing regime in our history. Even Reagan wasn't this fanatical. Close, but not this bad.

12. Pat Buchanan
is NOT one of us. He's the original xenophobe, homophobe, cultural warrior.

He's 100% right about neocon foreign policy delusion, 100% right about Iraq, about 50% on free trade, and approximately 0% right on everything else.

15. Here's my departure on foreign policy
He takes for granted that we coddle the likes of Suharto, Somoza, Pinochet and the Shah, because it suits our purpose, and rails against Perle for suggesting that we wage war (instead) to remove them for their 'un-democratic' behavior. It's the 'Saddam' treatment.

On this, I agree with neither of them. We should be using our vast financial and cultural resources to moderate immoderate nations, be specific and unrelenting in shaming them for their human rights abuses, and be vigorous in empowering beleaguered populations to consider their plight and pressure their own leaderships toward change. We must be siding with the people, or being a fair arbiter if they are legitimately divided.

It is the grey areas where we should be working - not with our military, but with our advisors, our young people, our values...yes, even our money if necessary.

Buchanan says unless it directly serves our interests, ignore the rest of the world. Perle says bomb it into submission. Both wrong.

16. What a bunch of media tools!
Here's a little hint: Just because Pat knows how to pander, that doesn't mean he has any principles or that he is "one of us"

IOW, if Pat says something, that doesn't mean he actually believes it EVEN IF HE SAID IT ON TV!!!!!

Why do proven liars seem more credible when they say something we agree with?
