Ann Coulter's Max Cleland article
I haven't been keeping up with the wide world of Ann Coulter lately, but someone told me that her story about Cleland's wounds had been verifed.

Is this true?

No matter how he lost his limbs, he's still a veteran. He still served his country while Cheney "had better things to do," so he said.

But I wonder if anyone here has been following that story (and knowing DU, SOMEONE most surely has).

Can those of you who have let me know what's been going on with that one?

thank you and arf, arf.

2. What do you mean, verified?
She wrote a whole article on Cleland's service in Vietnam in which she forgot to mention that the man won a Soldier's Medal, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star for Gallantry. He served with great courage and distinction, leading his men through some of the very thickest fighting of the entire war. One of his men dropped a hand grenade by accident and it blew off three of Cleland's limbs.

That Coulter is trying to somehow impugn Cleland's war record is bizarre and extremely offensive, not only to him, but to all the families and survivors of those who gave their lives in Vietnam.

4. that's why I'm asking.
..when you ask "verified."

someone told me that her story had been back up, and I just wondered if anyone here knew about this, or if there had been others who had come forward to say it's not true.

6. I don't think she offered any evidence
that what she said (wrote) was true. I haven't been following it too well, but it seems like typical Coulter libel to me.

See this:

Or maybe this:

Try a Google, I'm sure there's much more out there.

5. He has multiple medals for combat bravery
And served heroically. Why would it even matter?

These are the people who accuse us of "trolling for trash" while they send their hit-witch out after Max.

Sick.

8. good.
It is outrageous. It's too bad that Max Cleland and Ann can't go on a program together and let all of this country see the kind of trash the reich wing uses. She's so disgusting, I usually just ignore her, but for her to trash a man who put his life on the line in combat makes me wish for an early and painful death for that disgusting piece of...coulter.

I did a DU search and saw the posts on the subject from others.

apparently one of her outlets, WorldNetDaily, was saying she had verfied her own spew.

thanks to all who helped me clarify the issue.

10. Unfortunately, she will not retract the slander
Here is her column dated today from TownHall.

Interestingly, her account of the story, if it is true, is also the story of a brave act. Even if he was having a beer with friends and picked up a live grenade that was laying about. That's still an act of courage. That's still heroic.

Her attempts to degrade Cleland fall flat.
