The Village Voice on line and the RNC ad....
Does anyone else read the Village Voice on line each week? I mean there's no doubt that this is a liberal paper. Always has been and I would assume always will be.

But most weeks I notice an RNC ad and link at the top of the page. In fact I think most weeks it is there at some point, also with some pro-Bush slogan or some such thing.

Anyone else notice this and am I missing something as to why they would have that? I always find this odd.

1. I have felt for a long time that the Village Voice was being used
as a right wing tool....many of Hentoff's articles have raised my suspicions and the recent article regarding Sharpton makes me suspect it all the more.

2. there's more to the VV
than Hentoff. It has a decidedly left orientation.

Hentoff has been really good on the first amendment, which is why they keep him around. Yeah, he does hang around the right wing too much, but ...

I don't have a clue as to why the VV site has that ad, but perhaps people should simply ask them.

5. The reason I haven't asked them about the ad...
I kept thinking it was some kind of inside joke or something that I was missing and that if I e-mailed them i would look like a fool for not getting it.

I know that sounds strange but it's true.

4. Hentoff has always been consistent....
I may not always agree with him but he is a strict civil libertarian and applies it in ways that may not always be obvious to me (also a strict civil libertarian). I disagree with his pro-life stance but since it is not coming from a religious or theological basis then it's not as easy for me to dismiss it as an anti-church state issue as I normally do.

3. There was a time
when The Village Voice was owned by none other than Rupert Murdoch
(though this hasn't been the case for almost 20 years).
