Bush expands Iraq sanctions
This is good. Bush has decided to extend economic sanctions on Iraq for another year.

Why? I have my own ideas, but I'd like to hear others.

1. I think that he did it
so that the POWs from the Gulf War can't get their settlements from the frozen Iraqi assets. The extension of the sanctions include the continued lock on frozen assets. These bastards will do anything for money.

2. Please explain.
Did U.S. troops captured by Iraq in the first Gulf War sue Iraq and win a judgement that they cannot collect on because the U.S. Government has frozen Iraqi assets? Is Bush opposed to them collecting?

3. Yes.

American POW's from the Gulf War sued the Iraqi government (Saddam's) for damages due to torture and severe mistreatment. The court awarded them several hundred million dollars from the Iraqi frozen assets in a judgement last week. The bush admin tried to appeal the dicision because that money was earmarked for rebuilding Iraq, but the judge said no way the money is up for grabs (I think that's a good summery).

4. Could be just a necessity
He wants to keep Iraq in the category of nations in a state of emergancy, and he has to keep the sacntions on as part of a package deal.

I don't know about that though, seems like there are ways around, particularly considering the pressure Bush put on the UN to discontinue its sanctions.

6. How does the sanctions thing
go along with the US being the "occupying power" - I mean Iraq doesn't even have a government...well, I mean other than the US Army.

5. still not being reported...

And you would think that the timing alone would make is suspicious. Extend sanctions against a "liberated" Iraq right before Chimpy scrambles out of town for his month-long vacation?

Does that look suspicious only to me?

7. I say he wants the Iraqi people to suffer and die
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 02:31 PM by thermodynamic
He can bomb and he can kill and he can order US troops to die for his great whim of a personal vendetta (though the oil is a huge bonus), but now he wants the citizens, who are already displeased with how the idiot* is mishandling everything, to die because the citizens have been harming and killing our troops.

More vengeance and revenge all caused by President Manchild*.

Not only do we have a man in the White House who's as much of a terrorist as the people he's exterminating, we have a snivelling child-like COWARD.

Am I harsh? Probably. I lost my tolerance for that disingenuous little creep* a long time ago. I won't be anywhere near him because I'd turn my back on him and boo and not applaud and then his supporters would beat me up out of supposed disrespect; savage animals as they logically are.
