Iraqi women demand 40% share of political power

Groups of women, who make up at least 52% of population, take to streets around Iraq to demand new political voice.

BAGHDAD - Groups of women took to the streets around Iraq on Wednesday to demand at least a 40 percent share of the country's new political power as females make up more than half of the population.

A provisional administration is due to take power from Iraq's interim Governing Council by June 30 and Iraqi women want a piece of the action.

"We think this is very, very important," said Hanaa Edwar, secretary general of the Iraqi El Amal Association, the network group that coordinated the simultaneous demonstrations in separate provinces around the country.

1. Good luck, with all those white men standing around Bush I do not
think so. Did you see the picture when he signed the birth thing? You would think old white men have babies. I guess we should be happy Bush did not hold up a baby.

2. You mean this one?

During the time of Sadaam, women had a right to an abortion.

Not to mention that Elaine Chao said that there shouldn't be any quotas in the legislature for women.

Asked if she backed the introduction of a quota system to increase their representation, Chao said no.

“You’re trying to build a just Iraq... People should be chosen based on their abilities and not quotas,” she said.

Although women comprise 60 percent of the population, the creeping fundamentalism could restrict them of their rights. Even Pakistan has quotas for women in the parliament.

3. That is the one and it is just bad.
You would have thought that Carl would have seen that but then look at the carrier picture and the turkey picture. I just love the turkey picture and if Dem do not use that as on e turkey carrying another turkey they will be nuts.
