THE FEAR PRESIDENT

By the time NBC's Tim Russert finished interviewing President Bush (news - web sites) last Sunday, viewers were either frightened or flabbergasted or both.

Frightened because Bush -- announcing himself a "war president" -- used variations of the words "war," "terror," "kill" and "danger" more than 70 times in an interview that lasted less than an hour. It prompted memories of Cold War school drills and hiding beneath the desk.

Flabbergasted because you may have thought you had been mysteriously transported into an episode of "The Outer Limits." Was it Dec. 8, 1941? Or April 18, 1961, the day after the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion? Perhaps Sept. 12, 2001?

Actually, President Bush wants you emotionally stuck in the horrible aftermath of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. The weeks following the atrocities saw the president transformed into a forceful commander-in-chief and brought him sky-high approval ratings. With his ratings now down to about 50 percent, he'd love to flytrap American voters in a 9/11 mindset until November -- which, he thinks, would ensure his re-election.

3. we have nothing to fear but fear itself
democrats should use this tag line as their closing at every single public appearance, talk show, press conference, speech, etc., just the way republicans end everything with 'god bless the united states of america'.

it evokes the 20th century's greatest president, an actual, aham, WARTIME president, and completely neutralizes bush's rhetoric.

if pearl harbor led to a president insisting we should not fear, then why should we fear from 9/11? pearl harbor meant war against powerful nations and economies who could and did deliver on the threat to kill far, far more than al qaeda could ever dream of killing.

5. Small correction
The Only thing we have to fear is fear itself came at the height of the depresion, not WW II...

Otherwise, yes they should do that, as bush is about to send this country into another Great Depresion, HOOVER style

7. Dubya's just following Karl's instructions.
The puppet Bush regime is using new, aggressive forms of brainwashing to change the very way Americans think and feel.

This is the psychological dimension of the "High Cabal's" general onslaught against American workers, just as the "war on terrorism" is the military dimension and corporate crime and tax cuts for the rich comprise the economic dimension.

We are living under the beginning stages of a military dictatorship in precisely the same way that 1930s Germans suffered under the Nazi regime.

As in the case of Nazi Germany, state-sponsored propaganda (brainwashing) is a vital part of the Bush regime's strategy.

http://www.hermes-press.com/brainwash1.htm

Dubya was just trying to do some brainwashing of his own. I am sure Karl told him to work in the hot button words and phrases mentioned above. Of course Dubya being Dubya, and being on the slow side, he probably doesn't grasp that for propaganda to work well you're supposed to be at least somewhat subtle about it and not make it so glaringly obvious to the unwashed masses that you are attempting to jerk their strings with your message.

10. Reminds me of that line...
from 1984, War is peace...(How'd the rest of it go?).

Or the title of Gore Vidal's book, Perpetual War, Perpetual Peace.

13. The Fear president - Excellent!
I recall this phrase "with us or against us". I am definitely not
with the fear president, or his government. This means i am against
him and everyone in his government

If he wants to relive 9/11, i'm sure he'll realize after some time, that he will himself live in fear of retribution for his crimes for long after his crimial romp in the white house is forgotten. If a terrible eartquake strick washington DC and the entire administration was lost, I would have a spontaneious celebration and great happyness that the evil sauron has been cast back in to his volcano. It'd be a great celibration of evil defeated.

Bush i am against you. I am the enemy... a pot-smoking terrorist cannabis supporter, and every time i buy some weed, i offer a little prayer for the BFEE demise.

15. Only perpetual fear can justify perpetual war.
Bush and Cheney love to talk about the War on Terra lasting for generations. Plus, Bush has discovered the "mission" of the United States in his copy of the Constitution.
We're a nation with a mission, and that mission comes from our most basic beliefs. We believe that freedom is the right of every single person in the world. By the unselfish dedication of Americans in uniform, people in our own country and in lands far away, people can live in freedom and know the peace that freedom brings.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/02/20040217-5.html

I have an old copy of the Constitution and it doesn't include the part about the mission of the United States being to bring freedom to everyone on earth. This is an admirable goal, but I do not think most people, including those in the military, want to spend American lives and money on it.

18. Groundhog Day
I read somewhere that Bush's campaign will be like the movie Groundhog Day, except every day will be September 12, 2001.

All terror all the time.

19. Everytime Bu$h utters those words
"war," "terror," "kill" and "danger", look at his face. He just lights up. Then he either grins or smirks. This guy is a classic psychopath. He no longer even attempts to hide the evil that is in his soul.
