Bushie boy is "troubled" by the events in San Francisco.
My best friend in SF just called me and she heard the Asshole in Chief on the radio say he was "troubled" by the events in SF.

Troubled? Oh the good god fearing "Christian" does blink an eye when he kills thousands of Iraqis, but he's "troubled" when two people want to commit their lives together.

ABB!!!

Get this worthless sack of cow crap out of office!

6. If looks could kill
There was a bunch of women in another department in my office talking about gay marriage. It was all I could do to keep from going off on them. One lady said "there's just trying to force their will on us". I turned and glared at her for about 20 seconds. I had to get out of there before the went off. What really pisses me off is that I know there are a couple of gay guys in that area.

Thank god they don't work with me. There'd be some hell to pay.

8. Don't you just hate stupid people?
As a married woman I would tell her "No, I am trying to force my right to get married on them!"

I have seen some of the supporters of the FMA do interviews on television and they embarrass me with their arguments. The most offensive is "it's for the kids". I don't think kids need a mom and a dad, kids need LOVE and there are many people capable of providing that to them. How many are raised by a grandma or an aunt and are outstanding members of society? My parents were divorced when I was 12 and I lived with my mom and then my dad on week-ends. That was more fucked up than anything else. I am just plain old embarrassed by these bigots.

13. Quite frankly, when you have to resort to slogans like "God made Adam and
Eve, not Adam and Steve", it's desperation time.

The anti-gay marriage people don't have any convincing arguments to back up their assertions. Their thinking, and I use the word "thinking" very loosely in this case, is that when gay people get married, somehow heterosexual marriages will fall apart. I still can't wrap my brain around that bit of "logic".

The bigots sound stupid and uninformed. This whole aversion to gay marriage has its underpinnings in hate. They hate gay people, and can't stand the idea that gay relationships are just as valid as straight ones. And that's what gay marriage would confer, legally.

17. The republicans always have to have a "hate" group
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 01:11 PM by lovedems
When it was Reagan it was welfare mothers! I have NEVER understood the whole "sanctity of marriage" argument. I don't see how a gay marrriage would somehow make my marriage less meaningful. If anything, their argument that it WOULD make my marriage less meaningful is more of insult to me! I think the republicans have been so united these past couple of decades because of hate. The love to hate and look at the consequences of that.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I am so sorry for the GLBT community that these disgusting pigs have chosen you for a target this year. I hope like hell that it backfires and that you get everything you want out of this struggle plus. I hope when all is said and done you will have won the battle and send the bigots back into their holes.

Edit for terrible spelling!

To say that a homosexual marriage denigrates a hetersexual marriage is like saying the removal of a "Whites only" sign from a toilet stall denigrates a caucasian's right to a sanctified bowel movement.

51. OMG! "a sanctified bowel movement"?? ROFLMAO
Thank you. Catching my breath. Ha. Best laugh I've had in awhile. Hoo. Wiping tears away. Whee.

These bigots just beggar the imagination. Personally speaking -- as a straight-wife-mother and all that -- I cannot imagine how anyone else's desire to form a pair-bonded family unit could possibly threaten my boring lifestyle.

In fact I tend to think there's a perfectly good conservative rationale for supporting civil union/marriage, which would be that it fosters social stability and personal responsibility -- especially since one of the objections to the "gay lifestyle" all along has been male promiscuity and its inherent dangers to public health.

You'd think this would make some people happy, but no....

It's encouraging, though, that in the past few decades society as a whole has moved toward more acceptance, more "tolerance"-- and it may be that as more in the LGBT community have come out, more straight people have recognized them as their friends, co-workers, brothers, sisters, and children -- and not "the other."

As for the Constitutional amendment thing -- it's not likely to come to pass, because it's really difficult to bring about. It still has to be vigorously fought, though.

14. If they were really serious about marriage legislation
they would criminalize infidelity with prison time for offenders, put up more legal barriers to divorce and take other legal measures to ensure that those who choose to marry honor the contract.

Of course almost every Republican would be thrown in jail, and how would they be able to snag trophy wives? The whole FMA is so incredibly hypocritical on so many levels. Has there ever been an administration so obsessed with citizen's personal lives as this one?

I was flipping through Jane magazine the other day while in my doctor's waiting room and there was an article that said that red states have a much higher divorce rate than blue. So much for family values.

21. ok...devil's advocate
I am pretty sure I know why bush is upset...but what about this side of the issue: While it may be discriminatory, the current law in CA does prohibit gay marriage, yes? (I am not thoroughly versed in CA law but I think that is what I heard) Aren't the justices and the clerks issuing the licenses breaking the law? I know the judges performing the ceremonies are sworn to uphold the law. What would be said if something like this were going the other way? Where judges we doing something against the law that did not favor a democratic-party issue?

Just playing advocate...flame on!

22. The law does but...
the Constitution does not.

That is what is at work here -- is the law (voted on by Californians) stating a marriage is only between a man and a woman constitutional in California. I have no doubt that the law WILL be struck down, just as the MA law was.

What would have to happen for it to be illegal is to amend the Consitution to specifically state a position of marriage.

23. i'm with ya...
but they are to uphold the law as written until such time as the law changes or is declared unconsitutional...which it soon should. This is an instance where if we cannot trust those entrusted with the enforcement of law then the law is a moot point.

I think people should be able to marry whomever they choose...but this is overstepping the bounds. There is a process; while it may be cumbersome, it must be allowed to take its course or we begin to forgo many rather critical issues as pertain to the way laws in our country are passed and enforced...

33. Then you don't understand the process.
The ONLY ways for the law to be changed is via the Legislation (not going to happen in our lifetime on its own), a voter proposition (the one that past is unconstitutational) or through a legal challenge in the courts.

This event in San Francisco is designed to be the catalyst that brings about that neededlegal action. Because of the SF gay marriages and the resulting lawsuits, we now have a case that is able to be brought before a judge, and which will work it's way through the court system.

No lawsuits, no court challenge -- get it?

That's how the Texas sodomy law and MA marriage law were eventually struck down, by lawsuits brought about because of a specific action -- gay men charged with sodomy and a gay couple being refused a marriage license.

Here in SF we could have gone the route of having a couple apply for the marriage license and being refused, then filing a lawsuit, but this mass gay marriage is just much more fun. :)

34. fun it may be, but the people performing
the marriages and issuing the licenses are still breaking the law. It works to the benefit of the democratic-party's issue (well, it should be a non-issue) on this occasion, but what happens when it is turned the other way? I cannot come up with an example off the top of my head, but what do we do when this goes the other way? How do we say, "hey, you can't do that...it's against the law," when clearly the law is being violated here?

I know there needs to be change, but it should be handled through the proper (albeit lengthy) channels. Otherwise, it can and WILL backfire.

One person on a radio show here (a caller) said that the only legitimate reason he could think of for opposing the gay marriages in San Fran was because they were, in fact, in violation of the law.

38. You're overlooking the basic separation of powers. The legislature makes
laws, the executive enforces them, but the judiciary decides whether those laws are legitimate (and constitutional) in the first place.

Or sometimes in the last place...depending on how, if and when challenges arise.

Regardless of how much the rightwingnuts scream about "activist" judges, the courts are simply doing what they are supposed to. Obviously, being human they are not infallible (witness Bush v. Gore in 2000 which decision is more than arguably NOT an adjudication of existing law, but was the very epitome of the sort of 'activism' the RW deplores).

If 'checks and balances' are to function, there must actually be some.
(How's that for a tautology?)...

24. I am glad you posted this
Because I cannot properly express my feelings on Bush without potentially getting the post locked for profanities.

I am getting really sick of this God damned asshole and his one liner, "I am a complete fucking idiot" reaction to everything.

And even worse, the media treats it like it is a legitimate position.

His position on everything:

It is troubling, puzzling, and he is watching it closely.

Why doesn't the press call this motherfucker on his absolute refusal to take a stance on anything, as to avoid alienating votes or being accused of "flip flopping".

The media simply doesn't give a shit about Bush's incompetence.

This moron doesn't even read the fucking newspaper, and we are supposed to be comfortable with that???

Shit, during the California recall, when solicited for his thoughts on the issue, Bush informed reporters that he was "watching it closely" and described himself as a "follower of American politics". Does the press say anything to this? Fuck no. Instead they just give their mindless shrug, and then quip, "President Bush, speaking from his ranch."

But watch a Dem say they don't support how the administration is handling the war, and he will get branded as a liar, a whore to public opinion, and one who flip-flops.

I say, if that drunken moron in the White House wants to come out against gay marriages, if he wants to publicly announce that he endorses people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell, if he approves of the government endorsing the Christian faith as an official religion, the why doesn't he just come out and do it already?

Oh, right. Because he would be eaten alive...

I can't wait until this idiot has lost the election, is booed out of the White House, goes on a drunken and cocaine-induced bender, and finally is reduced to a muttering idiot (but finally just a private citizen). I long for the day when the only things described by Bush as "troubling" and "puzzling" are the overgrowth of brush on his ranch, the AL Pennant race, and mysterys such as "who drank all my whiskey".

They're playing it like it actually makes a rip of difference in anyone's life what people do and what gender they are.

Just look at it this way - we know "space men" exist because look at us - off on our own moon and roving around Mars already... That basically proves that aliens exist, because we are them!

So what if in the future we make contact and cohabitate with other Alien Life Forms? Is that going to be against the law? People need to update their perspectives. We're in the space age, not some ancient fairy tale written by people who thought the world was flat...

Perry, was caught in the sack with the Secretary of State,

I would ask people who are afraid of the 'effect' that gay
marriage might have on heterosexual to raise their hands if
they are divorced because of 'homo influence' if I may
quote someone I know, but I'm afraid Perry's wife would doom
my effort by raising her hand. That makes her and Ariana
Huffington the only ones I know about of what, 300 million

Sheesh. People waste such time on things that don't matter. Those
