"all hell is about to break loose" in Perry - Connor affair
From a GOP capitol staffer, according to http://www.burntorangereport.com/archives/001085.html

Widely gossiped also at Eschaton, Buzzflash, and others.

Apparently the Travis Co. courthouse is being staked out for a divorce filing by Anita Perry.

This is mighty salacious, but not altogether a bad thing for anyone except the three people involved and the Perry's children (if any).

Oh yeah, it's probably not good for *.

...I'm voting against him because he does not effectively represent me and my wants and wishes.

However, if he is somehow run out of office for this (through the electoral process) it will be another Republican that defeats him in a primary challenge. I hold out no illusions of a Democrat taking office at this time.

Does anyone remember when Susan Smith drove her two little boys into the drink, accusing some mystery African-American carjacker of kidnapping them? Amidst all the hoo-hah when she finally confessed was dear darling Newt Gingrich, who had the nerve to say "this is what happens when you vote for Democrats."

I say turnabout's fair play now, don'tcha think?

NOT so much about the gay issue in this. It's the hypocrisy, and the "family values." What's awful is that kids are involved in another broken marriage, while this guy strutted around with his fellow holier-than-thous in the republi-CON Party of Pharisees.

He is a conservative mouthpeice who should put his money where his mouth is and not speak out about "moral issues" and then behind the scenes engage in the same behavior he condemns. Was he Gov. when Texas was trying to reinstate the sodomy law? His hypocrisy deserves to be made public. It isn' this sexual orientation that should be mocked, it is the hypocrisy that should be.

16. He signed the Texas "defense of marriage" bill....
If he "comes out" & repudiates it, I'll support that action.

However, as you pointed out, his sexual orientation has no bearing on his ability to be governor. We Texans remember his pandering to insurance companies & other big donors--& all those special sessions he kept calling until DeLay shoved through redistricting--& too many other episodes to recount.

His "ability to be governor" is still non-existent--no matter what he does in private.

Anything that will give the obnoxious social conservatives here in Texas a black eye for their hypocrisy!

I hope this one picks up some momentum.

I can tell you right now that Carole Keaton Strayhorn is kicking back in the Capitol, having a big old gut laugh in between sips of Jack Daniel's and puffing on a 56 gauge cigar.

Edit: Brian Sweat makes a very good point and one that is worth giving some time and consideration here and elsewhere. We need to focus on the fact that Perry is a hypocrite and a liar, not on his sexual orientation or choices.

44. No damage to the GOP? I disagree.
It's the hypocricy. There will be damage to the GOP and to Bush as well. Perry is Bush's boy (not THAT way) and the same-sex marriage thingy is heating up. This is going to disgust the fundies and help to discourage them from voting in November. Even if the affair is with a woman, it will not be good for the GOP.

But who knows if any of this is true? Right now we have as much as Drudge had on Kerry, which was...nothing.

But "rumor" has it that will be changing soon. The rumor is that the Houston Chronicle is all over this and they will break it (probably tomorrow?).

The rumors are from multiple-sources and anything that gets the GOP to freak out seems to be at least "interesting".

48. The word her in West Texas
among politicos is that "Anita will calm down and shut up." Word is that she will either "shut up" or she will find out what it is like "to be smeared and vilified as a hysterical, jealous woman." Why you ask????? (I sure did) Because..."if she comes out with that 'queer' story the boys will produce a woman who will claim the real problem is that the gov is trading up for a younger woman"

That, I might add, came from a prominent Dem who is considered very liberal. He seemed to think "that will be better for everyone."

59. Call your local media outlet
And ask them to check into Austin.

I already called some media folks in Dallas - now they're checking on Anita Perry to see what's going on for themselves.

64. I don't mean to be rude but....
let us just say that in the media market that claims to include the "hometown" (TX version) of the Chimp himself, NO ONE wants to hear this. This is the center of the world for anti-Gay/pro-Republican voters. The Dem I mentioned isn't cowardly but rather was being cynically rational.

They will kill this thing any way they can.

Certainly you know the pull that chimpie has with the San Antonio-based Clear Channel company. Chimpie and the CEO are in bed (so to speak).

Look what Clear Channel's "patriot rallies" did to the Dixie Chicks. Nevertheless, I did call one of our local channels and chatted with the news desk phone answerer person. I did not give all the details surrounding the possible divorce. The news desk suggested I call the station's Austin affiliate. I told her I wasn't going to, but that whoever broke the story big time was going to be famous.

54. Okay, here's my question regarding this situation....
How many times do well-known people have to have sex with both genders before we start saying "bisexual" instead of gay or straight?

56. Texans, you know what to do
Call your local television/radio news desks and ask them if they've heard anything about Anita Perry serving up divorce papers on her husband. Some of the Dallas stations had no idea this might be going on, so they're starting to contact their Austin affiliates.

Let's help Texas media chase this one!

61. Are divorce filings a matter of public record in Texas?
If so, any of you DUers in Texas have a little time on your hands and access to county courthouse where the state's first lady might be inclined to file papers with the court?

If these things are matters of public record, should be easy to verify the rumor of a divorce and then let the chips fall where they may.

P.S. Did the Texas SOS get flowers for Valentine's Day? Just curious.

96. Depends
The TX Leg passed a new provision in the Family Code providing that pleadings are confidential until the respondent is served, but it only applies in counties with a population of 3.4 million or more. So, if Travis County is one of those counties, no one will be able to get that information until the Gov is served.

66. WARNING: More unsubstantiated stuff...
From the Data Lounge

This is firsthand news from a well-connected lawyer I know in Austin:

--Anita Perry has hired Becky Beaver, the most notorious ballbreaker divorce attorney in Austin, to represent her. She will be filing for divorce on grounds of adultery, naturally.

--Sec. of State Jeff Connor (Gov. Perry's lover) used to work at Akin Gump (very large law firm) and was well-known among his colleagues as being gay. They were surprised that Perry picked him for the position given his sexual orientation, in fact. Now, of course, they understand why.

Take it for what it's worth. The lawyer has a web site here

from her website:

<snip>
Furthermore, until we have entered into a formal agreement with you, we reserve the right to represent a party adverse to you in the very matter you have contacted us about handling.
<snip>

lol - even if this does get put into standard disclaimers, it sounds awfully odd...

it's done to prevent "lawyer shopping" by spouses who go around conflicting out all the good lawyers in town so the other spouse either is left hiring a not-so-good lawyer, has to find someone from out of town, or show up to court unrepresented.

Add this potential scandal to the grand jury investigating Tom DeLay and the calls to investigate Craddick and this could damage the GOP which claims to be the party of virtue!!

86. Turns out Perry (like W) is a former CHEERLEADER
This keeps getting weirder and weirder...

http://quest.cjonline.com/stories/122200/gen_1222007540.shtml

Rick Perry's long wait is finally over.

The West Texas rancher and former Texas A&M cheerleader moved up from lieutenant governor to governor of Texas on Thursday, and will complete the final two years of George W. Bush's term.

"A man of Texas roots and Texas values," the president-elect said of Perry. "I know him well. He'll be a fine governor, carrying on the tradition of bipartisanship, civility and fair dealing."

After seven weeks during which the outcome of the White House race was in question, Bush resigned as governor Thursday, and Perry was sworn in during a ceremony at the Texas Senate.

Funny, because Bush (who picked Perry to be his successor) was ALSO a cheerleader at Phillips Andover prep school:

http://www.celebrity-pics.net/dp/2-22.htm

Funny, because Bush is still very close to and still visits his old roommate at Yale, Victor Ashe, now mayor of Knoxville TN, who is known to be gay:

http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2002/09/40961.html

I don't know what to make of all this. Except that if chronic liar hypocrite Bush WERE gay, of course he wouldn't "come out" and tell anybody - ever.

However, I want to hear all the right wing propagandists would-be newspeople deliver the news.

However, it's not on Drudge so there must not be anything to it...right? Drudge has had four days to come up with a sentence....right?

101. WARNING again: different gossip different day
Another nugget from kirker of the Data Lounge

I was debating posting this in one of the existing threads, but it's pretty significant news so I figured it deserved its own: the national media *is* hot on the trail of the Perry story. Dave McNeely, the Austin American-Statesman's political reporter, has been contacted in the past couple of days by both the NY Times and NPR about it, hoping he could provide them with info.

Looks like this one's gonna explode verrrry soon.

BTW, That's the first mention I've seen of national media. I'd be really surprised if NPR calling about it is true.

Understand, this is just another gossip piece, but it's an authenticated pseudonym 'kirker' that has been relaying this stuff. If he's wrong he won't be able to post as that pseudonym again (not that it means much, but he seems to have been using it for a while).

Again, grossly speculative, but I've included it for those who can't get enough gossip.
