Talking to Repubs makes me feel like that kid that sees dead people
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 11:15 AM by CalamityJane
Conversation started out that she doen't see a difference between Bush and the Democrats. Then I get her to admit that Bush lied about the WMDs. Then I say, "People are dead now, lots of them because of those lies and exaggerations!" She AGREES with that. But says she will still vote for Bush because "the situation is too big for anyone to handle." And besides she doesn't like a certain candidate's wife.

How can they go all crazy over Clinton lying about sex and then ADMIT that Bush lied and that people are dying because of it and still not care? The strange thing is she sounds pretty reasonable discussing the different candidates and then has this insane disconnect when it comes to life and death. I tried to ask why, but couldn't get any answer that made sense. What could explain this?

She was one of those saying Clinton had to step down during impeachment because Henry Hyde said the flag would fall if the president lied.

1. Keep at it....she will figure out the truth
It may take some gentle prodding, but people will wake up to the facts. Most Republicans are good, decent folks that want the best for their country. It may take awhile, but the first step to realizing you have a problem is to admit it, lol. And she seems to be willing to want to switch her vote. Keep pushing the current issues, and I think you have a good shot at getting her in the fold. Remember, it's a long time until the election.

One person at a time, one issue at a time, one vote at a time.

9. That's what freaks me out, the Republicans I know are good, decent
people that I am related to. She is a very caring person to family and friends, bur when we talk politics it has changed. We used to agree on most everything and criticized Washington in general.

Now it is like we can't connect because she listens to the media and the media say everything is A-OK. If the media made a big deal about people dying, I think she would care. I thought she was more independent-minded than that. It is like the 2000 election, she cared more about Bush winning than if it was fair or not.

2. Parody of "The Sixth Sense" I've seen
It has a shot of Haley Joel Osment talking to Bruce Willis. The caption is "I see stupid people. They walk around and don't even know they're stupid."

3. This is a Class A example of: "Americanus Stupidus"
Stupid, stupified, unwilling to think things all the way through; superficial, stubborn, absolutely, adamantly unwilling to admit past errors in judgement.

Much like the man this woman thinks should be president, she is STUPID.

Don't waste your time trying to understand her or attempting to overcome her fallacious, fantasy-based belief system; invest your time in working to OVERCOME the effects of Americanus Stupiduii.

Calamity, I often wonder if there isn't some element in these people's mental makeup that is related to sociopathology...truly.

4. People do not trust Democrats
Because they will not stand up and lead. The DLC has beat into their heads that they must chase after the middle votes and thus no candidate will champion ideals. They seek the undecided voters and thus become unclear themself. People looking for a leader percieve this as lack of leadership and will flock to anybody that does present leadership qualities. If confused they will vote for whoever uses the most emotionally charged language and seems to have a passion for what they are talking about.

7. Actually, that's beginning to change
Many polls are showing people trust Dems on a host of issues over Bush, and that's one of the reasons Bush is in trouble.

5. Read George Orwell's 1984
When you do pay special attention to Smith and his Signficant Other.

Smith cares, and remembers thigns that he should have forgotten for his sake... but he is affected by the conflict of what he remembers and what he is seeing. Perceptioon, memory and reality and playing nasty games with his sense of self...

She, on the other hand, is there only for the sex. Politics is immaterial

In many respects, reading 1984 and readign a GOOD HISTORY of the rise of Adolph Hitler explains what is going on RIGHT NOW with many Republicans...

They know it is wrong, they know he lied, but the party, one that does not tolerate any dissent... will not allow them to say such...

Where is my memory hole?

Now unlike Smith, we do not have memory holes all over the place, and many of us have refused to play the game... hence we are proding these people constantly and challenging them. In some cases we are making them openly revolt and change party registration or just stay home.

Now as to sex and Clinton... the best way I can explain it is... and it will be sad what I am about to type... tits and sex excites them in their moralistic bombastic style, that is all they are allowed to get excited about... hence they go overboard. (And why a good sex scandal involving republicans would really help these folks... as Malloy says, only thing to bring down a pubbie a dead girl in bed, or live boy in bed)

Now if this was oh... insert Democrat in the WH, right now... they would have impeached and shot him at dawn for high treason a long time ago...

This is part of that inner conflict that now affects the Pubbies... and why they are seen increasingly as extremists in this country... those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it, the last party to be identified wtih such extremist policies was the Whig party and we all know it went away and was replaced by the GOP.

6. Show her the picture of the little Iraqi girl in the purple shawl
lying dead in her fathers arms with her feet blown away. Tell her that a reasonable person would have given the UN more time, and could have avoided this.

A person who has diplomatic skills is needed who can help rebuild our tattered relationships, bought about by the Bush cartel's callous disregard and arrogance, and the problem can be shared and eventually solved.

It is a big problem, but a problem that should not have happened, and the world community can solve it. The point is Bush IS the problem, a liar and a hothead.

8. Ask her if she cares about the environment, jobs in the USA, or
billions of dollars in debt being placed on her children and grandchildren. Get off of the focus on war and let her see that Bush is no friend to the working, living American either.

11. Most of you are right - it is propaganda and being willfully obtuse,
I know. I just keep banging my head against it, because I had this illusion that most Americans were good people at heart. Sure, we are clueless and comfortable because of our fortunate way of life, but I thought most Americans would at some point see through Bush and believed in democracy and not killing people needlessly. Now I am just on tinterhooks wondering how many!
