Radio Left
We will interview Lieutenant Colonel Bill Burkett on Thursday February 19th, 2004 at 5 p.m., 10 p.m. GMT.
Colonel Burkett has been at the center of the controversy surrounding George W. Bush's National Guard service record and provided information about corruption in the Texas Air National Guard during George Bush's term as governor.
Burkett served in the military for 28 years beginning with a tour of duty in Vietnam. During Operation Desert Storm he was War Plans Officer. From 1995 until his retirement in 1998, he served as State Plans Officer for the Texas Army National Guard under then-governor George W. Bush.
Among Burkett's allegations, in the Bush administration, there was a widespread practice of delaying filing forms to remove names of soldiers no longer in service to continue to receive federal funding for personnel that no longer existed.
When Burkett went public with this information, he was refused medical treatment for a near-fatal illness he developed while on a tour of duty in Panama.
