Just heard a "National Center for Policy Analysis" shill blast wind power.
It was on NPR. He argued against wind-generated power. Cited the Sierra Club and other environmental organizations' concern about wind turbines' "Cuisinart" effect on birds. He talked birds; I smelled fish. So I went to the National Center for Policy Analysis website. Guess where the NCPA headquarters is located? Here:

12655 N. Central Expy., Suite 720 - Dallas, TX 75243-1739 Phone 972/386-6272 - Fax 972/386-0924

These three banner ads appear on the NCPA home page:

Methinks the NCPA is mis-named. Should be the National Center for Oil Policy Analysis and Cheerleading. GRRRR.

Thanks NPR (National Petroleum Radio).

2. Interesting fact...
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 08:11 AM by Damn Ann the Man
According to the President of my college -- who's very left wing on social and environmental issues -- former Democratic Texas governor Ann Richards had a much better environmental record than former NDP Ontario Premier Bob Rae, who held office at about the same time as Richards.

On one hand, I'm surprised, given how left-wing the NDP is.

On the other hand, Rae is a Blairite pansy.

3. another reason..
... to stop funding the disingenuous NPR. They know, or should have known, that this "think tank" has an transparent agenda. But did they mention it? Was there a followup rebuttal?

Believe me, you'll hear more Heritage Foundation, American Enterprise Institute and other blatant "stink tank" bullsh*t than you will liberal opinion on NPR. They are NOT balanced.

4. Follow-up rebuttal ...
No follow-up that I heard. However, I had just turned the radio on when this guy started talking. Maybe he was rebutting another speakers views. When I get a little time later in the AM, I'll check the NPR website for info.

5. There is a lawsuit here in the bay area fighting the overseas company
that owns the wind farm here in N. CA.

Also there are fights against winpower in Nantucket Sound with Senator Edward Kennedy leading the charge.

Large wind farms may also displace birds by fragmenting habitat. This concern is greatest for those bird species that have been pushed to the brink of extinction by other human activities that limit their habitat resources, such as dense coastal development, human traffic on beaches, and coastal pollution. The greatest risks are to beach-nesting birds such as roseate terns and piping plovers <6>. Likewise, construction could potentially force migratory birds to move resting or foraging activities to more marginal habitat and could interfere with the passage or feeding activities of nesting shorebirds. The nature of the risk depends on when and how birds use a particular habitat.

The Humane Society of The United States, The Int'l Wildlife Coalition, The International Fund For Animal Welfare, among others support this viewpoint. more info here-
