The Democratic Party IS the party of morals & family values
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:52 PM by Smirky McChimpster
the evil, greedy, hypocritical GOP has hijacked religion and all of its brainwashed votes.

we need to shift the rhetoric, frame the debate, get the christian votes back

my proposal: "Jesus was a LIBERAL"

put stickers EVERYWHERE, on bumpers, on buildings, on signs, etc.

they may control the media, but we can mobilize a grass-roots action.

librul is not a dirty word

4. Morals and family values
I think some of it is self-inflicted. As a religious liberal, I haven't felt particularly comfortable about even acknowledging, much less, sharing my faith around her. On the one occasion when I did state my opinion that I didn't want my small children to be sexualized by popular culture, I got several sneering responses telling me I was a Puritan, I should grow up, etc. I didn't mention my religion at all, but somehow religion came up in the responses in a negative way, as if being religious made one a right-wing bigot.

I don't want to impose my religion on others, but I expect some respect for my faith, even if you think it's all a load of crap. Every faith has something of value, and it doesn't do us any good to make fun of religious people and then wonder why they don't support us. I am not a born-again Christian, but those I know are good and decent people. We shouldn't lump them in with the right wingers.

6. it's been done
but it doesn't convince those who think Jesus was more about personal salvation than social justice, just like the opposite view doesn't convince anybody here.

7. Would Someone Pleeeeeze Explain To Me ...
... just what the h*** are "FamilyValues"?

I'm sooo friggin' sick of hearing this term. As far as I know, there isn't a religion called "FamilyValues", nor a moral code known as "FamilyValues", not an agreed upon cultural definition of "FamilyValues".

The family living with drug addiction probably has one definition. The family of Ken Lay probably has another.

I won't even admit to having any "FamilyValues" — although I DO have a family.

11. Family values = Absolute Dogmatic Moral Authority
The battle lines are built around modern society with diverse cultures and the rising relics of ancient Dogmatic Authority as once held by the Churches of Europe.

500 years ago the world managed to escape the grasp of the Church. It did so after 1500 years of domination and oppression. The Church had absolute control of knowledge and life. The end of the Dark Ages brought into the world a new way for humans to live with each other. No longer dominated by one authority demanding what was right and wrong.

Moral Relativism and Humanist ideals soon were adopted by the people as the means by which to deal with each other. They could not force their moral codes on others. Consensus rather than force became the means of guiding society.

But the Churches still exist and are still built upon the same foundations that led them to become the claimants of absolute truth. They continue to fill their followers with this notion. Eventually the people forgot about the tyranny that the dominance of the churches brought. The insistance of the Churches Dogma began to reassert itself.

And thus we have come to this place in time when fanatical followers of Church Dogma have begun asserting that their morality is the only proper morality. From there they claim that their measure of family is the only true measure of family. And upon that they claim that they are the only true voice for family values in the world.
