I support outsourcing (on edit:: world trade can be positive)
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:45 PM by mdmc
Capitalism only works when fair and free trade are in balance. Foreign workers need protection and Americans need new opportunities.

Dennis Kucinich had the solution to this problem; make education and health care Constitutional rights that cannot be taken away. Create fair trade policies that are also free.

Regionalism, the support of local products and services, can never be outsourced. It is this sector of the economy that needs to be accentuated. Huge investments in health care and education can create the economic opportunity that has been lost through the process of outsourcing.

1. Another thing to do about outsourcing is to help small business prosper
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 02:03 PM by Mountainman
Most new jobs will come from small business and they rarely outsource.
The federal government should refuse to buy from companies that outsource.

Outsourcing is bad for this country because it lowers the standard of living here and helps to reduce the size of the middle class. The economy is dependent on middle class consumer spending and when there is unemployment coupled with low paying jobs creating a nation of working poor along with a huge deficit we are looking at cival war in the streets right here in America.

6. not to knock your post, but...
the federal government is ahead of the pack when it comes to outsourcing...so to state that the feds should not buy from companies that oursource is highly unlikely...instead the feds are flocking to contractors and outsourcing solutions, same as US corporate.

I used to work for a very small business which offshored almost all of its programming work to India. Offshoring is not the answer, unless the purpose is to bankrupt America and have civil unrest.

2. Outsourcing should be about expansion, not trade
A business can expand but not just to ship the product overseas back here. If a business wants to sell in another market it should sell in that market. Intra-industry trade is a huge waste of resources.

3. I'd be happy with the opportunity that was sent to India myself
Americans don't need NEW opportunities, they need the opportunities that have traditionally been available. This exportation of jobs is a new spin on the old and ever popular smash and grab philosophy of the right. Anything for a quick buck...with little attention payed to the ultimate repercussions. Let's face it...the fuckers who are getting rich right now via outsourcing aren't gonna become poor when Americans can no longer purchase products....cheap or not. The fact is that an adult with two kids and a house cannot buy a new car on 6.50 and hour....let alone food and clothing. the argument for job exportation is so inane it hardly bears addressing.

As far as regionalism is concerned...the only thing which cannot be outsourced is natural resource extraction.....and the US is hardly hardly resource rich. Huge investments in health care and education require money...without money...ours not Japans, neither can be realized.

I'm sorry but a life of mowing the local feudal lords lawn, changing his oil and polishing his shoes is not one which I look forward too. Perhaps you do.

4. Lots of things can't be outsourced easily
Things that are tied to location, like mowing lawns, or family court judge.

Thanks for your posts.

5. and we have illegal immigrants to do those jobs
Well, maybe not the family court judge but in many areas (like mine) most landscapers are facing serious competition from illegal immigrants who work for less than a living U.S. wage.

Don't assume you're safe because you mow lawns.

As for being a Justice of the Peace, in many areas, this is not a paid position.
