No Special Rights for Christians!
2,350+ same sex couples have been married in SF since Thursday. We wait to hear what the courts will do about this.

Hopefully, they will remember that this is a human right issue, not a religious one.

What do the words "Pursuit of Happiness" mean? I believe that being able to marry whomever you love is right up there at the top of the list! The ban against inter-racial marriage was lifted in 1967(?) and the world did not end!

Churches would still be able to decide who could get married in their establishments, as they can have rules which don't allow for women priests, no abortion allowed by their members, etc.

What harm does it do to any of us, what consenting adults do? This a part of the Freedom we have fought so hard for.

What about equal justice under the law?

I can not imagine wanting to marry someone of the same sex... I can imagine that those who want to, can not imagine marrying someone of a different sex!

"Out of many one" this is what makes America a strong country. We must celebrate all of our differences! How boring and stagnant we would be if we were all the same!

Freedom is the first Human Right!

1. Well said.
I especially like this:

I can not imagine wanting to marry someone of the same sex... I can imagine that those who want to, can not imagine marrying someone of a different sex!

It is ashame that people don't realize that. Just recently I have seen it said several times by a few different people here at DU, that gays and lesbians have the right to marry, just not each other.

I get thrown through a loop when I see that very right wing statement made by long standing members of DU.

2. Locking--GD rules
Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum
1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

Please feel free to repost either in one of the on-going discussions of same-sex marriage or with a more accurate title.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
DU moderator
