Rick Perry and the gay hanky panky rumor: what's the deal?
I saw this mentioned in a couple of threads here at DU yesterday, but haven't seen anything further about it on the web.

What's the scoop? Or where can I go to get the scoop myself?

I always LOVE stories of Republican hypocrisy exposed, especially when it involves hot gay sex!

3. Man, we never learn...
it's an internet rumor. Just like the Kerry/Intern issue, or that Hillary killed Vince Foster. Let's not get gleeful until there's some actual substance, ok? It just makes us look as bad as the other side.

9. Shame on us for attacking the Republicans
At DU, we should be giving them metals of honor. Wait a minute, aren't we supposed to be for the Democrats and against the Republicans?

10. mature post
let's attack Republicans for being homosexuals! Fuck attacking them for destroying our planet! Fuck attacking them for their attempts to destroy the Bill of Rights! Fuck attacking them for using corrupt companies like Diebold to rig the voting in several states! Let's go after the sexual preference of Texas' governor!

16. And He Probably Believes In Astrology Too!
Oh horrors!

I agree... this is a bit much. Before I'm willing to take this any further, I'd need photos... incriminating photos... REAL photos!

13. I'm against Republicans
but I don't think we need to glom onto internet rumors about their sexuality in order to fight them. In fact, I think that's one of the worst ways to do it.

Being against Republicans doesn't mean we should act like them. This story is nothing but sordid rumor, and just because we don't like Perry doesn't mean it has any merit.

19. How about if we just flame Kerry for an affair he did NOT have
This attitude is the reason Gore is not in the White House. Only Republicans can fight. We Democrats have to be dignified and lose - even when we win.

Since Wednesday, how many postings here have been devoted to Kerry's non-existent affair? How many postings have been devoted to Rick Perry? Is this the Twilight Zone where only Republican officials need to be respected in both Republican and Democratic forums?

20. So your position is
that we should embrace every unfounded rumor as true?

I disagree. It makes us look like assholes. If we can't beat republicans on the issues, and we have to use stuff like this, we're no better than they are.

I'm fond of a little thing called Truth. I think it ought to play a role in our politics.

4. Rick Perry should be locked up for impersonating a human being.
So should the rest of the Republicans who fixed the computerized voting in Texas.

5. Has Perry himself condemned homosexuality?
if not, i see no hypocrisy.

if so, i still don't care, because it's his life, doesn't affect me or anyone I know in any negative way.

as I said in GD, who cares?

21. So if we refuse
to believe an unfounded, salacious rumor with no evidence behind it, we're playing "nicey-nicey"?

How about using truth and reality and issues to make our case? You think we're better off using lies and rumors? Sorry, I don't.

24. I don't believe this story is true.
I'm not goanna act republican and jump on any rumor against a republican. This governor is married and has two kids (although I know that doesn't mean anything). There is no way governor Perry will be that stupid to get caught in bed with another guy. No way.

Sorry.

28. the rumor is spreading pretty fast here in Austin
without getting too specific since it IS a rumor, his wife was the one that caught him and it was with another high profile TX politician.

Is it true? I don't know...but nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to TX politics.

30. It's too good to be true. It's only actual, not imagined, hypocricy.
My dad was real excited to have heard this rumor and called me up about it. But I dismissed it out of hand. It sounds too much like payback for the Kerry smear. We don't have to stoop to their level to beat these bastards. We just have to beat them.
