2. Are polls on DU over?
One can only hope. They are merely partisan rants thinly disguised as democracy. Kind of like the electoral process.

7. Peace requires non-stop effort

Peace has to be created, in order to be maintained. It is the product of Faith, Strength, Energy, Will, Sympathy, Justice, Imagination, and the triumph of principle. It will never be achieved by passivity and quietism.

- Dorothy Thompson

Do not look for peace.
Do not ask for peace.
Do not wait for peace.

Work for peace.

- Dissenting Prole

9. Sometimes you need violence

How many people if they could, would shirk the responsibility to pay for all the programs necessary for a civilized society?

What do you do to people that refuse to pay for social security, for example?

"If you don't pay for SS, I'm going to ...I'm going to ... I'm going to ask you nicely, again!"

What about the civil rights movement and the national guard in the south? You think those guardsmen should have been carrying flowers or guns?

12. Hey, wait a second
violence for people who refuse to pay SS, quite a concept :eyes: things do get strange here in the wee hours

Just how do you think laws get enforced? The government isn't there to ask nicely. When they make rules, even rules progressives generally favor, they back them up with armed police.

These programs don't exist because people charitably give money to fund them. They give the money up because they don't want to go to jail.

13. they way you stated it
I couldn't help but picture someone getting beat over the head or something as a punishment. Yes I guess putting one in jail for tax evasion might imply force, but not implicitly.

Myself? I continue to picture a world where there are always alternatives to violence. It may never be completely realized, but we could no doubt do better.
