Has anyone told you Bush was chosen by God?
This is apparentely something fundies use to justify his lack of being elected, he wasn't elected, but chosen by God. I'd be interested in seeing their evidence.

However, I have thankfully yet to meet a single person spewing anything resembling this idiocy. But then again I don't live in the Bible Belt.

3. No, if they did I guarantee a bellicose barrage of fact and derision
in response.

And of course, "So how is that different than a Sucidie Bomber saying God chose Bin Laden?"

is always a good reply.

THAT should make the smoke come out of their programmed automaton's ears!

"That does not compute, that does not compute!" ZZT!

22. Or it can also mean that God chose Clinton.
:D That would have almost the same effect, methinks.

In a way, I understand this religious view- to a point. I believe that all this is part of God's plan- that we were meant to go through this as a nation. The lesson is there, although I'm not exactly sure what it is and I'm as upset as anyone else by the state of our democracy. And just to clarify, that does NOT mean that I, or many other Christians, believe that God approves of *. There is a distinction there.

So vote for Kerry! Why not, if some tells you to, you should do what they say.

Don't question anything, just vote for Kerry!

God likes him so he can do no wrong. That just throws the Constitution out the window along with centuries of liberal political thought. I'm hearing grave spinning.

16. yes, many fundies here in Virginia have told me exactly that....

since I ride the Metro train that goes past the pentagon....I've heard it from a wide-ranging diverse group of religiously-insane people, including soldiers, military officers, scientists, and other Federal and Federal-contracting personnel....it's really frightening...and very difficult to respond to....mostly, I just get up and move to a different seat on the Metro-Train...or get off and wait for the next train...

many people who participate in shrub's KILLING CAMPAIGN are real dissociated from reality and on heavy prescription drugs....you can hear the pill bottles snap during the early morning train ride...and those in my Church have a difficult time making the old commandment work "THOU SHALL NOT KILL", when they make a living out of KILLING innocent women and children....and somewhere in their subconscious, they are truly aware that their pentagon work is really contributing to the KILLING....

21. Yes
A friend and I tag-teamed some fundies in LTTE in our local paper about a year ago. We both received the "Bush was chosen by God" responses to our letters and then our responses to those responses were not printed in the local rightwing rag. Go figure. We've both since left town and have established ourselves in our respective communities. I'm not usually one to gloat but, in this instance, I think it's warranted.

26. Bush tells people this all the time.
Bush has told friends, foreign leaders and members of his Cabinet that Bush was chosen by his god to be president so that Bush would be in charge when 9/11 took place. Bush claims that his god told him to "go after" (I think he meant "smite") Osama and Saddam.

My favorite Bush quote on this was from the Aqaba summit when Bush also said that his god wanted him to work on peace in the Middle East but only if it did not interfere with Bush's 2004 election campaign. Like Bush himself, Bush's god apparently has some fucked up values.

"All leaders are annointed by God. We have the responsibility to trust them. We should not question them."

I kid you not- he said "we should not question them".

I asked him if Clinton was annointed by God, and he paused for a second and said, "no".

I told him it must be nice to know exactly what God thinks.

*edit* for multiple typos

lol- Bush was annointed by God and Clinton wasn't- I wonder if they even see the irony.

I was also just reminded of that B*sh appearance last week at Central Dauphin High School. You guys probably talked about it- he was standing right under the word "Dauphin" as he was speaking. Was this intentional? Doesn't "dauphin" have a negative connotation???? I thought it referred to a self- important person who BELIEVES himself to be appointed by God.

It's a French word for the eldest son of the King... the inheritor of the throne. Pretty f'ing appropriate, though not very democratic. :P

I'd LOVE to have that picture if someone here has it. :D

35. Yes, several people have said that to me both directly and in a cagey
way, " I belive the leader of this country was chosen by God" When you remind these folks (two of whom were my brothers) of the heaps of disrespect they had heaped on the last leader presumably also chosen by God, the subject quickly changes. They are members of the GOP Fundies fake christian hate church.

37. Yes. Not directly chosen by God, but a part of God's plan. All
earthly authority is by divine appointment. This issue is the cause of a current blow-up between me and my fundy family.

They are very very confused because their pastor preaches that Bush is like David, who God told to go and smite the elamites, or some other, because the elamites were dissing the samorites or some such.

They say God works in mysterious ways, his wondrous works to perform.

There are a lot of spooked people in this country.
