Just a note to let Portlanders know about two great events at the First Unitarian Church in Portland this week:
Tonight, Feb. 16, Eric Alterman will discuss his new "The Book on Bush" -- Eric is one of our best communicators on the left, as a columnist for The Nation and for MSNBC. 7 p.m. at 1011 SW 12th in the Salmon Street Sanctuary, and it's free.
Wednesday, Feb. 18, a forum on Iraq features Phyllis Bennis from the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. and Joseph Kruzich, U.S. State Deparment and adjunct faculty at PSU. 7 p.m. in the Main Street Sanctuary. $2-$10 sliding scale donation.
I'm not a member of this church, but I did attend a showing there of the documentary on Iraq and was happy to see a vibrant peace and social justice community present, working to restore democratic values and speak truth to power. I watched someone in the audience holler "Pants on Fire" at the image of Dr. Rice, and it restored my soul.
