Canadians, and savy Americans... thoughts on Paul Martin these days?
I can't believe he's already had to put his job on the line for a scandal. You'd think it would have taken a few years before anything this big happened.

3. Living across the river...
...from Windsor, I keep up with Canadian politics. and Martin just does not impress me. If I were in Canada I think I would have to be NDP, especially if Sheila Kopps(sp?) comes over. Martin is as big a corporist as Bush in some ways, and I think he will have problems through his whole administration keeping his hands clean...doesn't seem quite as good at deflecting scandals as Chrieten.

Love Rick Mercer's new show BTW...wish US pols were as easy to talk to!

4. Martin lacks the killer punch needed.
He's easily flustered.

8. Actually, he's of French descent, he's a Franco-Ontarian.
I couldn't believe that either.

10. He was live on TV and radio yesterday for 2 hrs. taking citizens' calls
Some of the calls really scolded him for the sponsorship scandal...Rex Murphy, the host let everyone ask their question and have a follow up question...Can you imagine Bush going live on TV and answering questions for even 5 minutes?... I still like Martin....He has his father's commitment to social causes, I believe....and he is on a good footing with the premiers, which is a big stip..Time will tell how this sponsorship thing all works out...

11. Well, regardless of the scandal
I'd like to see him stay on for at least a year.

12. In some ways I feel sorry for him, but
not that sorry for him. I'm still looking forward to giving the Liberals a sound thrashing whenever he dares call the election.

Long before he ascended to the PMO I thought he had the stink of John Turner on him. Too long the dauphin. Too many expectations. Too much hubris.

If it had been up to Martin a year ago, undoubtedly Canada would be in Iraq today. I don't want such a man as Prime Minister. At least, not the PM of a majority government.
