Nascar dads is the most overhyped media creation in years
There are no such thing as nascar dads, these are people mostly from the south who were going to vote for Bush way before this media created phrase.

2. Exactly....as Will Pitt said...
It's pretty much just conservative white men, mostly from the south. Which is fine, but let's not make it out like this is some sort of new swing voting group whose votes are up for grabs. It's just a new way of the media emphasizing some other group that is pro-bush because so many of the others are now on the fence.

3. I never got the whole NASCAR dads thing
Was someone putting forth the idea that this group could actually be a swing group? If so, that's nuts. As you say, these folks would NEVER vote for a Democrat. Mostly southern, mostly white males who watch car racing? Who are we kidding? These are the people who adore Bush, who idolize him.

I live in the south, and the NASCAR dads are the same men as the Rush Limbaugh listeners.

4. agreed
Exactly what is a NASHCAR dad? Makes no sense to me other than code words for white male southerners who think God chose George W. Bush for the presidency.

5. Maybe Kerry should go for the Hockey dads
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 09:26 AM by demdem
Of course like Bush he has that group up in New England rapped up too. Soccer moms was more believable because they were not just in one area, every state had soccer moms. Nascar is pretty much regional.

6. You are forgetting
It was Republican spinners who first brought this up in a big way last year as the answer to "soccer moms." It's just a reverse view of the gender gap and a way of not mentioning the Confederate Flag.

7. How are they "swing voters"?
I keep hearing that claim. Is there any evidence that they would ever vote for a Democrat?

8. NASCAR President
bush was in attendance at the Daytona 500. Air Force One flew by the speedway, twice, banking toward the track for the adulation of the crowd. The large presidential convoy made a lap on the track before stopping in the pit area where the (you know, the bush) gave the command to start the engines. Asked if he would like to drive a stock car, bush said he knew about speed, he flew jets in the National Guard. They LOVE him. Remember, this is a sport that is powered by OIL and the fans are so dedicated that they don't mind having their teeth kicked in as long as the boot is wearing their favorite car number.

9. Wrong !
Just saw this on one of the sunday shows. Fastest growing segment of nascar fans is minorities. Women make up nearly half of the fans. The largest audience for televised nascar races are in NY and LA.

They did point out that it hasnt been a swing voter sect, but it looks like it is becoming that.

10. Bush is gonna lose the Nasdad vote...
Because the price of gas is almost double what it was when he took office! Many Americans assumed (in the back of their minds)that if we conquered Iraq, the price of fuel would be low enough by election time, to have jumpstarted the economy, and Bushco would easily remain in office. Cynical, but true.

Didn't happen. Not gonna happen. Every time someone welds a pipeline together in Iraq, an Arab runs over and blows it back up...I know, I know-we weren't getting that oil anyhow, it was going somewhere else; but markets are interconnected (though not with 100% coorelation) and events in Iraq definitely impact us here. ALso, Opec is gonna keep supply tight, they say.

Then too, it is truly written, "every time an Arab oilman makes a dollar, a Texas oilman makes two" (quoting myself here, lol). Nasdad is beginning to realize that.

"Gentlemen: start your engines!!!

I would, but I'm outta gas. And it's your fault!!!!
