Is Matt Drudge finished?
His latest attempt at bigtime scandal-mongering has turned out to be an embarrassing bust. Let's face it, he only broke one important story in his entire career, and that was because it was carefully fed to him by Lucianne Goldberg. Does he even have any powerful and important patrons left? Is his inexplicable influence finally at an end?

2. I haven't got the stomach
to go up on Drudge's site.

Is he backpeddling yet?

Is he blaming somebody else?

3. Oh, my aching sides
Let me get this right...L Goldberg fed Drudge a phony story, and now it's blown up in his face? Could there be any sweeter victory? If only we can add Mark Fuhrman into the mix, too.

Thank you for making my day, Drudge and Lucianne, you turds!

15. No, they had a falling out some time ago.
I don't know who is responsible for his current troubles, I was referring to how Lucianne made his career by letting him break l'affaire Lewinski.

4. No. He's like the Energizer Bunny
He just keeps getting back up again even though any other mainstream journalist who reported the way he did would have long since been shamed into retirement.

5. No the VRWC is overflowing with money
They'll keep his Scaife-funding pipeline alive for the Orwellian obfuscation he can help distribute and the way he can sucker in the "Mainstream Media" into his lies and fantasies.

Basically, the Busheviks won;t let him fall. Good liars with established websites don;t grow on trees, you know.

7. This won't harm him at all.
His patrons are not going to take Kerry's or Ms. Polier's word for it.
We have people here on DU who still believe even after the latest statement.

9. This things still very much alive.
The UK press is all over this stuff. It's just a matter of time until it breaks here. You've always got some Woodward and Bernstein out there just waiting to make a name.

19. No, the UK press is as gullible as Drudge
BTW, there have been stories quoting people who actually know Alex saying the rumors were almost certainly false. If anyone tries to push this further, I expect you'll see legal action from her parents, at least.

11. Libel/Slander Suit
lets say Mr. Kerry takes Mr. Drudge to court and wins...1 dollar per hits that would roughly be 100 million for all the hits he recieved on this story at approx 15m a day.

If only, but no.
The only thing that might actually finish him is a scandal of his very own.

12. Or does he have Limbaugh's eager following?
So many people seem to love dishing dirt, even when it's a total lie. I heard a conservative talk show host say, "You should be more afraid of liberals than Al Qaeda". He said this with complete sincerity and I wonder how many listeners felt he was telling "the truth".

18. What did Drudge report incorrectly?
Drudge just reported that Clark made an off the record comment that an intern issue was going sink Kerry, that Kerry ask her to leave the country, and Dean was staying in the race because of the rumor. Several people have verified the Clark statement, although Clark has denied it. This Polier girl and Kerry have denied having an affair, but there is also a report that a girl did a TV interview with an ABC affiliate about an affair with Kerry. It was thought this Polier was the girl, but who knows. At least the US media is showing restraint and not reporting until facts are known.

22. Oh, Geez Mojo, maybe we're being a bit harsh here, ya think?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 01:59 PM by kanrok
How about journalistic credibility? Does Drudge have an ounce of it? It's a smear, plain and simple. You don't run with a story until it's verified, at least that's what's taught in "J" school. Drudge had a woody over this story because he feels he's God's gift to the Jihad wing of the repuke party. He's a tool, and this story just verifies that for me. It should for you as well.
