1. PA Pubs not likely to abandon Specter
in these uncertain times. Of course I speak with NO authority on this issue, but I live in PA and I just don't see people giving up on Arlen.

2. agree totally
our state is so strange, right wing fascists in one corner, Dem governor, wacky but at times progressive Arlen, wing-nut controlled legislature....

3. Is there any chance that a Dem could beat Specter?
He's not a bad guy but we need more Dems in the Senate. The north is where we have real hope for changing the balance of power.

4. Actually I think a Dem would have a better chance of beating
Santorum these days. Specter is just too comfortable for many, whereas Santorum is too polarizing. If all goes well this fall, we may be able to work on getting Little Ricky out in 06!

7. if the Dems would run someone against Rick and actually
SUPPORT him or her. I had heard that they may try to run Barbara Hafer (who turned Dem recently), but her tries at the Governorship were not very sucessful. Too bad Rendell didn't wait to run for that! Can't think of anyone offhand who would be good to defeat Rick. But we had better find someone and give them a pile of money!!!

10. I don't know PA politics, but I sure hope you produce a good candidate.
I tend to think that Dem energy should be focused on taking the entire northeast as opposed to fighting an uphill battle in the south. The rest of this country, aside from CA and a few other enclaves, is pretty undefinable. The northeast should be solidly Dem, cause we reflect, imho, the primary philosophy of the region.

13. Yeah we'd have to find a good Dem to run against Ricky.
Barbara Hafer won't get elected as a Dem anytime soon. It's just too soon after her conversion. Let's think about this. Could Rendell run in 06, leaving Baker Knoll to complete his term if he got elected?? Rendell has had his share of battles with the Repub Legislature, I'm not sure if he's electable either.

Well, a lot can change in two years time, so always look on the bright side!

6. Every other commercial on
Faux News is either, Spector slamming Toomey, or vice versa. At times there could be 4 commercials in a row.

I some what agree with one person saying that PA won't let Spector go. (I mean he lead the Warren Commission, and they still voted for him)

But a lot of GOP money is coming in to de-throne Spector. And I really can't tell who is ahead at this point.

I think that if Spector loses and Toomey runs, we could have a fair chance at getting a dem in there. But not if Spector runs against the Dem.

We already have one psycho in Santorum, we don't need this fuck in there as well.

9. Yea I know...
Have you seen that one ad, That shows Kerry, and at first you think its a slam against him. Then it turns out that Spector voted with Kerry 70% of the time?

GOP trying to hit 2 birds with one stone.

11. Could be shooting themselves in the foot though.
Is there a chance that PA would go for a far rightwing Repub over a Dem?

14. Hard to tell
It really depends on who is the competion and where they are from. A no-name from Philadelphia would probably lose.

into the field who were otherwise disinclined.

16. I can't tell, we just put a dem in the governor's office
But in my area the job losses are very significant. And with that steel tariff in the cities. A Dem does have a chance. I really don't think this state will go red in the next election. It depends how angry everyone is. And people are very angry in my area... "Republicanville"

30. I don't think so
However I'm in NE PA and this area (Luzerne Co.) is a more Dem-leaning area. Then again PA elected Ricky so I guess anything is possible.

PA is a tough state to figure out. Carville called PA Pittsburg and Philly with Alabama in between....or something like that.

31. Hey Neighbor! Lehman PA, luzurne county checking in...
agree with your assessment about PA...

I think it will be a close one for Specter... but it's going to come down to which ever candidate (specter, toomey or a dem) that can promise to deliver on jobs

I've been here for 7 years (formerly from Massachusetts) and I have never seen such a black-hole for jobs in this area - not only in availability of work but also in the pay scale...

12. As a Democrat, I can't vote in that primary, so I've not paid much mind
I don't really care what happens. If Spectre beats Toomey, I guess that's good, because Toomey is likely more consevative than Arlen. I know Toomey voted for the PBabortion ban. OTOH, if Spectre loses then the republicans don't have an incumbent advantage

18. If Specter is defeated by a far right Puke, then the Dem has a much better
chance of winning. Gray Davis used this strategy successfully in '02 (of course the villanous Pukes found another way to bring him down). Anyway, might not be a bad plan.

and shill for each other at times. Santorum seems to think Arlen's periodic moderation will rub off on him. Yuk. It is pretty gross.

I have seen is the one where Specter criticizes Toomey for voting against the Medicare bill.

The Hoffel people are getting active though. I've received a couple of e-mails from them.

24. Looney Toomey will get about 20% of the vote because the
real republican loons will come out of the woodwork for him but the sane base will vote for specter.

However that said I have seen some pickups with toomey stickers on them

25. I'd be shocked
if it was close. I think Spector has it locked. I haven't seen any Toomey signs, ads, bumper stickers and I live in an area of PA that would make Alabama seem like DU territory.
Unfortunately, I don't think theres much chance to beat Spector. I certainly hope so, but I kind of doubt it.

Of course, I'm no political insider, just a couple observations from the sticks.

I know a few real wingnuts here in Warren County and they hadn't heard of Toomey either. Only one had, but was still voting for Spector.

Never thought I'd be chatting with an honest to goodness liberal in this part of the state!! I fear we are few and far between.

PS. Thanks for the welcome!

29. Youre Welcome
Theres a funny story about a die hard liberal here in crawford country.Sean Delaney owned a bookstore in the lower part of the
Repukes county headquarters. He had a 100 year lease on it.
So every election season the repukes would put up their signs and Sean would post all the democratic signs up in front of his store.
The repukes tried and tried to get him in ousted to no avail.:o)
