Still think * will be allowed to run?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 12:03 PM by TruthIsAll
Many Republicans will stay home or vote Dem.

Clinton was impeached for lying about sex. No one died.
Bush has not been impeached (yet) for lying to justify a bogus war. Many died.

Many Republicans in Congress are feeling vulnerable.

His poll numbers are going down - fast.

His credibility is shot. When you lose that, you are finished.

He is a proven incompetent and guilty of LIHOP, at minimum.

He is a proven serial liar who justified a war based on fabrications.

He was selected by a judicial coup. At least 51 million will not get over it.

He has brought the economy to the edge of the cliff.

He has let the corporations run amuck by giving them everything they asked for.

He has given nothing to the people - but has taken much away.

His idea of sacrifice is for Americans to own only one SUV.

He has alienated the existing military - and veterans.

He has hidden evidence of war planning in Cheney's Energy papers.

He has hidden evidence of 9/11 negligence in Tenet's PDV.

Castro's four hour speech was not long enough for him to recite all of Bush's malaprops.

He has never spoken about his Bin Laden connection.

He has become a caricature of himself.

He will have to comment on the indictment of Cheney's staff for outing a CIA agent - an act of treason. But the buck won't stop there.

Jay Leno is bashing him nightly.

Bill O'Reilly admits he was duped.

The New York Times and Washington Post are writing critical editorials.

The WH press smells blood. They will not quit.

He has become an embarrassment to America's relations worldwide.

He has been exposed as an incurious, vindictive dolt in O'Neil's book.

Anti-Bush books are all best-sellers.

Even Congress won't let him get away with blaming intel.

Every new death in Iraq brings his poll numbers down.

Every job lost brings his poll numbers down.

Every increase in the deficit brings his poll numbers down.

He has united the Democrats, independents and moderate Repubs against him.

There is an old saying: Don't throw good money after bad.

3. Yes he will run
Its way to late for the Corporate err.. I mean "Republican" party to change candidates. They don't have anything to run on other than 9/11 happened while Bush* was "President" and that they were able to get the media to repeat the lie that he was "Honest, trustworthy and a Great Leader In This Time of Crisis". They can't run on jobs, healthcare, education or even national security (Iraq anyone?) all they have is Dumb-ass's increasingly tarnished "image". Some people still buy into that fabricated image and they don't have anything else so thats what they will run with.

If I were the Grand Wazoo of the GOP, I'd be looking for a replacement for Junior. He's just a puppet anyway, might as well get a new puppet if the old one isn't working.

if he dies. Then they could replace him with Jeb and win on sympathy.

I don't think there's a chance of that happening, of course. It's deep in tinfoil hat country, but still.

Anyway- no, I think they're stuck with Dubya. Changing candidates would be an admission of wrongdoing.

26. Remember the Prophet's Curse?
The zero-year phenomenon that Since William Henry Harrison in 1840 every president elected in a year ending in zero has died in office? Except Ronald Reagan, and he almost did. It's nonsense, of course, but the Shrub was Selected by the Supreme Court in 2000.

28. hey, you be talking about Tecumseh
and the Tecumseh Curse.

In that context, I always find it interesting to note that the US government has entered into over 370 legally binding treaties with the indigenous Nations of what is now called the United States -- and the US government has broken or violated every single one.

There is something you can say about consistency.

Little Chief AWOL Appointee is continuing this faithless track record...

...and the karma keeps mounting.

The Wheel is turning. Always turning. Great Mandala, Medicine Wheel, Sacred Hoop, Ourobouros, Kalichakra, whatever. It's turning.

10. He hasn't started campaigning yet...
... so we should be ready for him to put out some distractions. Given the short attention span of the U.S. electorate, the issues that seem to be ones that will really do him in right now are not necessarily the issues that will be at the forefront of the news broadcasts come fall.

Plus, of course, he will lie and spin. Already I've seen some TV commercial that says the new plan for Medicare is really no different from what seniors have now.

I think Democrats need to be ready with hard facts, carefully organized so that a ten year old child can understand what is being said.

I understand your disgust with the present administration, but some of the things you mentioned, i.e., "His idea of sacrifice is for Americans to own only one SUV," fall into the category of opinion and innuendo and maybe even "bashing." I don't know what Bush thinks sacrifice is and neither do most people. Now, if you could find where he actually said that he thinks sacrifice is for Americans to own only one SUV, you might have something. OK?

14. I'm walking a thin line here...
I do not want your thread to get locked. Having said that, I will say that I've felt for quite some time that shrub will not be the one the Dem nominee faces in this next election. He's become a huge liability to the big money guys who put him in office, and I doubt very seriously if they will gamble by letting him face re-election.

Look for Unca Dick (who I think is in very poor health anyhow) to step out soon--especially given his Halliburton baggage--and he'll be replaced by a moderate GOP guy they can control. After that happens, I'm gonna be very worried about shrub's safety.

I hope to hell I am wrong--because I think shrub is very vulnerable against ANY Dem, and I really wish him a long life and lots of time to reflect on his misdeeds.* Anyhow, I think he's well advised to be concerned with personal security. I really feel for the guys charged with protecting him. This must be a nightmare.

That got me to thinking...the 1st Amendment Zones. Now, you need a fresh tin-foil hat for this one, but don't let it cover your ears. It simply builds upon previous posts...

Rove puts out a press release about the Free Speech Zones. Something to dupe America again, something that will make the Wal Martyrs think Bush done good. Drop the protection zones. Let America speak! Then -- kabooey. Dammit! We TOLD you we shouldn't allow protests! Government goes into lockdown mode while Jebbie is set up to replace his fallen brother. Kennedy comparisons will be everywhere, what a great man Bush was, just like JFK. They'll still have to steal the race, but no one will notice or care about the Diebold machines because we'll still be talking about poor W, and "moving forward" and blah blah blah. Marshall law, though. They'll link Al Q to the free speechers. Laws about free speech on the internet will crop up. Peaceful assemblies will be a thing of the past.

These people think evil on a grand scale. We cannot afford to dismiss any theory. Be prepared; consider the cash invested in this man. It will not be given up without a fight.

Way to early. Way, way, way to early. No one is even paying attention yet except political junkies who by virtue of the fact that they're paying attention think that everyone else is, too. Most people don't give a flying fuck what happened last presidential election, much less about 30 years ago with either B or K. Besides, B hasn't even touched the $200+M war chest yet, and there's going to be more $$$$ to come. Lots more.

This election will turn on the economy and the war. Either B's doing good in the opinion of the public or he isn't and there isn't a damn person on this board who can predict anything worth considering. Poll numbers meaning nothing. How many presidential candidates have been down 10-20% as late as a few months before the election and win? Bunches.

Talk on Nov. 3rd about what happened the day before. Until then, it's all BS.

your argument.

And if you have MORE examples, tell US. YOU look it up.

To repeat MY point: NOT one INCUMBENT has ever been that far ahead and has lost. This refutes what you have said.

And you use Dukakis as an example. He was not the president. That was a one-time 17% lead, right after the Democratic convention. Poppy Bush was Vice-president.

The polls turned immediately around to favor Bush during the Repuke convention- at least 3 months before the election. He pulled his Willie Horton and Boston Harbor garbage.

Sorry to have to correct you with the facts.

20. You're working from the assumption that there is justice in this world
when the assassinations JFK, RFK, Lennon, MLK, Wellstone, et al., compounded with the fact that their real murderers have never been brought to trial, compounded also with the general drift of the corporate state towards total world domination, convinces me otherwise. Sorry for being pessimistic, but we have seen time and again how there is little or no punishment ever brought to bear when corporate lackeys and right-wingers abuse the power they've been given.

Remember BBV? I beleieve the truth is that we've got the cards stacked against US, 'cuz THEY're the ones writing the rules and fixing the game in their favor. They might throw us a bone in this election, but it seems like it'll be four years of almost-as-bad-but-nicer-and-more-polite corporate shoes dropping....

And I don't believe that Bushco is just going to bow out gracefully now that they've raised the most money that any political campaign has ever raised. They're going to use that loot for something, and it's most surely to safeguard their corporate allegiances at the top of the heap.

And yes, I AM in a bad mood today....(three weeks without a job, and I'm starving....)

Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 12:59 PM by Tims
Anything less than running Bush would be an admission of guilt to all the accusations leveled at, him, his administration and, by extension, the whole of the Republican party. The Republican campaign machine is not even in first gear. They won't spend too much effort early on damage control because they know voter's memories are short.

We can speculate about an Osma capture for an October surprise, which may or may not happen, but rest assured, they have SOMETHING already planned. They will use whatever they can to save his butt, but they are not stupid. If late in the game they begin to believe Bush can't win, simply look for the Republicans to begin distancing themselves from him. Look for a shift of RNC money going from Bush to local campaigns. They will focus on trying to keep the House and Senate in Republican hands. Look for a lot of Republicans, quietly and "off-the-record" expressing their disappointment with Bush.

It's too early to tell, but the Republicans have done such a good job of demonizing the Democratic Party, that even many moderate Republicans may still be willing to live with Bush rather than vote for a Liberal. Our best bet is that an unenthusiastic, Republican base will stay at home and an invigorated Democratic base will get out and vote.
