Definition: A democrat is a republican.....
awaiting his layoff/outsourcing notice.

Too true, my friend in MI who used to code device drivers and is now doing part time waste management (substitute trash collection guy) work at best is a good example.

got any of your own?

1. A democrat is a republican....
...who has lost his job to outsourcing and finds that he cannot get any state funded worker retraining or health care assistance or financial assistance for his family because of the massive tax cuts he supported while he still had job.

3. Because noone who has a real economic policy is "electable".
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

4. I never got why Gephardt didn't catch on
I think a lot of people liked him, but the "electable" thing hurt him more than anyone.

I think the dems should move away from free trade, maybe with Gep on the ticket thay can start now.

6. Gephardt doomed himself
in that Rose Garden photo op after leading the fight to sign that damn authorisation to invade Iraq. After a rather distinguished career fighting for labor in this nation he simply threw it all away by not understanding that Bush is the antithesis of everything he
(Gephardt)stood for all his career.

5. Electable = Follower <> Leader
This entire electable thing is simply more of the DLC mindset of do not not. Follow what the establishment polls at.

We are forever going to be second dogs unless we stand up and lead. Give the people something to follow. If our leaders are following then whoever stands up and actually says something will become the defacto leader. Thus the GOP with their rhetoric will lead us merryly down the lane to the slaughterhouse.

Many refuse to vote for Dems simply because they do not consider them trustworthy. And they are right to doubt our leaders. They follow wherever the polls may lead them. They try to appease as many as they can and in so doing they wind up changing their position like a flag blowing in the wind. There is nothing there for the people to follow. Thus they will vote for anyone that sounds like they have a position. They will vote for the slippery words and rhetoric of the right.

While it was not intended as a candidate/primary thread, it has become one. Sorry.
