3. We are still getting Democrat spokespeople on TV (CNN today) who
say things like "granted he's a very nice guy" or "a very decent guy"...but...and then they talk about his failings as a president....Why won't these Dems refrain from granting Bush "niceness"?....

7. Agree 100%!
Bush* is NOT a nice guy. He's a ruthless sociopath. He's got almost as much innocent blood on his hands as Saddam Hussein.

Democrats should never say one kind word about Bush*. Not one.

8. I saw one. "Mudcat" Saunders
a Democratic Party analyst called Bush disingenuous on Late Edition. Said he didn't buy Bush's good guy image. Maybe they're catching on.

12. "Granted, he is perceived by some as a regular guy which he is not"
is the best they should be saying about him.

9. I used to hate when The Washington Post...
...managed to slip the phrase "popular wartime president" into its Bush stories over the period from fall 2001 until some time in 2003. For all that the Post has been something of a Bush enabler (Witness the op-ed piece claiming that the presence of 100,000 anti-Bush protesters in London wasn't so bad after all), its tune has changed of late, what with the Air National Guard question. They took their time about getting there, though.

10. you know what else has disappeared?
mention of Kerry's five to ten point lead in several polls.

when's the last time you've seen that on the tube?

that'll be taken care of by the Alex 'Portnoy' thing, though

Apart from the small minority (the insane) among Americans, I seriously doubt His Chimperial Majesty ever was the popular guy they loved to say he was.

If we had real journalists working, who had permission to do real reporting, they would long ago have analyzed HCM's "popularity" as an expression of the heartbreak and fury we all felt on Sept 11 2001, and that it was just a temporary thing, like his Daddy's immense popularity when the Gulf War ended.

A lot of people thought I had gone off the deep end in 2000, when I started urging people to vote, and warning them about Bush. Americans are nice people -- a lot of people simply had the courtesy to "give him a chance" -- and now I think they have concluded that he blew his chance. A lot of people now approach me and say "Wow -- you were SO right about this guy!! Now, how can *I* make sure the bastard isn't re-elected?" The honest pro-Bush people I know now just shake their heads and say they can't figure him out anymore.

Bush's "popularity" is going to be in as bad shape as the economy as we go through this year. People are going to vote in record numbers this year -- in order to vote the creep OUT.

Yeah, sure -- he can try another LIHOP/MIHOP and raise the Terra Alert to DayGlo Orange, but doncha think he's not going to be able to sell that same pup twice?

What I noticed all along was how diverse opposition to Bush is! Boy, all kinds of people hate his guts, and more join their ranks every day! But now, he can't count on still being on his presidential honeymoon, or on the people who rallied behind the leader after the horrific events of 2001 -- and his supporters are almost monolithic, being either plutocratic war profiteers, the religiously insane, and authoritarians.

My DU friends -- we're going to have a very rough year and will have to work very hard, but *we will* retake Washington this year. I think it is prudent that we begin planning a DU Inaugural Bash for next January. I can't wait to meet you all there, and we are going to dance, and laugh and sing and cry tears of joy -- because we accomplished a great thing for our country.
