1. After the "men in black" visit, a lot of folks recant.

2. You've got that right
I imagine that Asscraft dug in his medical record and gave him the "opportunity" to reveal it first. That's if it's even true. Such regard for the military that they shame a veteran like that. Grrrr!

4. Except he said the same thing 4 years ago.
If he is in the beginning stage of Alzheimers, he may have trouble remembering now; that doesn't negate what he said back them. It's the Moonie Times that is leaving out the fact that the story has stayed the same.

11. So in the end, this only makes the GOP look really really bad - again
Like the Fonda/Kerry photo - it falls flat and makes them look desperately manipulative. Going after Kerry is inevitable. But going after Turnipseed shows them kicking an old soldier when he's down. And unnecessarily so, given that his assertion is 4 years old.

Btw, I wonder what this would mean for Reagan? After all, he had to be in the early stages of Alzheimers while in office. What does the GOP say about his decisions at that time? Hmmm....

8. Story link
Some history on the Turnipseed/Bush AWOL story.

It is interesting that Hatfield in "Fortunate Son" never mentions General Turnipseed in his investigation of the Bush.

10. They have no shame

Making an old man go on Television and recant on the basis of his Alzheimers.

Evil, slimy bastards. And as has been pointed out, he said it years ago as well.

I used to work in a nursing home, and if I recall correctly the problem with Alzheimer's patients isn't that they FABRICATE memories, but they can't recall the memories they have, or they get lost in them and lose contact with the present.

I hope to God they're just bribing these people and not threatening them, but I'm sure it's both.

makes sense, doesn't it?
