GOP is having the UK bug Democratic Candidates
Picked this up over at FR:

FOX NEWS 11:25am EST 2-15-2004

Fox news is interviewing John Loftus, Formers Justice Department Prosectutor who states that he has an inside scoop that "the Republican Party has asked the British Secret Service to bug phones of American political Candidates. "

FOX NEWS Eric Shawn: "It's a very serious and very shocking story."

JOHN LOFTUS: "That allegation seems very storng of that is the case. Why would any political party want to bug someone else?

It's a juicy way of running a smear campaign behind the works. We have been doing that for about 50 years and it started with president Roosevelt. He had signed a secret treaty with Britian in 1943 that let them each set up listening posts on each other's soil with no search warrants. It's a great little scheme. "

"So the British can use American computers to bug American politicians, and the Americans can use British computers to bug British politicians and each side can truthfully say that they aren't spying on their own citizens. They are just trading information under the table."

ERIC: How widespread is this. Members of the Security Council admitted to me that they are being bugged and that it wasn't surprising, they expected that.

JOHN: "What congress doesn't realise is that this is meant to favor one party only. In 1978 Carter tried to ban taping without a court order. So the bill is that the NSA cannot target american citizens, but not other countries from doing it. "

Since I do not watch Faux, is this true?

1. That's pretty much how I've always heard Eschaton operates
Harkening back to the days when governments used to at least try to follow the letter of the law, the Eschaton listening posts supposedly used 'surrogate' foreign personnel to actually operate the bugs. For example, at the UK Eschaton posts, US personnel listen in on UK citizens, and at the US Eschaton stations, UK personnel listen in on US citizens. The same is true of Eschaton listening posts in Australia.

All the intelligence gathered is shared with both the UK and US (and Australia), of course.

2. Yes, I only had Faux on for a couple of minutes and this is what
I heard.

The guys names was Loftus. He was taking some credit for something he reported last week turning out to be true, then he announced the above - which is in effect -

a British-Republican partnership to spy on candidates - thereby circumventing some law in this country about spying on our own people.

He said the British listen in on and process all our calls and we listen in on and process all their calls. Circumvents the law.

3. If you take it from the above exchange...the question is
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 01:23 PM by higher class
If we have two countries spying for each other to circumvent the law, how long has it been going on? Did Democrats receive the results of the British spying on Forbes, Keyes, Bush, etc. while Clinton was Pres?

Is this just a Republican spy job? This Loftus guy said that Republicans are receiving this info from the British as if to say tody. He reported it as a scoop.

5. If he is talking about Eschaton, then this
means that Canada is involved as well and if Eschaton has been this secret listening facility, then what is it about this scoop that makes it a scoop? If every call can be listened to by the UK, US, Canada, and Australia, then what are their rules? Do they have one that prohibits using it for political manipulation of elections? Is this the first time there has been a parnership to target certain calls?. Can they target certain calls? How does a Rove talk to Cheney?

One last question, is Eschaton involved in transferring our vote counts?

Time to google.
