Mona Charen on Kerry
Anyone see Mona's latest steaming pottypile?

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/monacharen/mc20040213.shtml

"From all accounts, and even from my own very limited personal experience, it is clear that the president is quick and bright. And yet, he is also capable of an excruciating performance on "Meet the Press." Words are not this man's friend."

Wow, even Mona's admitting he stunk.

Oh, but not so fast:

"Those who dislike his policies have made a cottage industry of calling him stupid. But this reveals their own stupidity. Stupid men don't become fighter pilots, attend Harvard Business School or successfully declare and conduct a worldwide war against terrorism. They don't have the vision to understand that seeding democracy in the backwater that is the Middle East is the best long-run strategy for winning the war and ridding the world of the most dangerous threats to peace and order."

Well, they don't become fighter pilots unless their daddy is rich and powerful.

But the most interesting part is this:

"Kerry testified before Congress in 1971 *to the effect* that American soldiers had "raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam ..."

So here's my question. Was Kerry lying, or telling the truth? Mona just assumes me made all this up, quoting Jug Burkett from "Stolen Valor" as supporting her POV.

only one instance of such American atrocities.

on edit:
here's just ONE story on it.

As the "search and destroy" mission unfolded it soon degenerated into the massacre of over 300 apparently unarmed civilians including women, children, and the elderly. Calley ordered his men to enter the village firing, though there had been no report of opposing fire. According to eyewitness reports offered after the event, several old men were bayoneted, praying women and children were shot in the back of the head, and at least one girl was raped, and then killed. For his part, Calley was said to have rounded up a group of the villagers, ordered them into a ditch, and mowed them down in a fury of machine gun fire.

4. here's a history link for Vietnam....soldiers killed women/babies
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 10:39 AM by amen1234
although My Lai was only ONE of many massacres, it was the best documented and the military coverup would not work, BECAUSE OF THE PHOTOS...the My Lai "coverup" was led by Colin Powell (second in command for the Americal Division that committed this My Lai war crime and many others)... Powell was promoted for his lies....many believe that these same KILLINGS are going on in Iraq...soldiers are fearful, they don't know who to trust, cannot speak the language, so they just KILL everyone...and rape the women before KILLING them....

-snips-

March 16, 1968 - Over 300 Vietnamese civilians are slaughtered in My Lai hamlet by members of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry U.S. Army, while participating in an airborne assault against suspected Viet Cong encampments in Quang Ngai Province. Upon entering My Lai and finding no Viet Cong, the Americans begin killing every civilian in sight, interrupted only by helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson who lands and begins evacuating civilians after realizing what is happening.

March 28, 1968 - The initial report by participants at My Lai states that 69 Viet Cong soldiers were killed and makes no mention of civilian causalities.

The My Lai massacre is successfully concealed for a year, until a series of letters from Vietnam veteran Ronald Ridenhour spark an official Army investigation that results in Charlie Company Commander, Capt. Ernest L. Medina, First Platoon Leader, Lt. William Calley, and 14 others being brought to trial by the Army. A news photos of the carnage, showing a mass of dead children, women and old men, remains one of the most enduring images of America's involvement in Vietnam
