4. I don't think he's ever had to ...
... shoot a BB gun , let alone having to shoot an M16 (which jammed) or toss grenades, or use a Pentagram, I mean Pentagon wickedly favorite -- the infamous Flame Thrower.

Imagine the horror those 18 - 32 year olds had to go through ... now we are fighting for oil ... back then I heard we were fighting for the "natural rubber" resources in the area.

oh yeah, did I forget Agent Orange ... Mr. Ihadtoleave8monthsearlyforHarvard.

8. Rubber? We were fighting for rubber?
This was Firestone's war?

I have never known why we were in Viet Nam. Never. I never heard one single reason to be there.

10. Yep, rubber. At least originally. Then it was about testing new
weapons systems, uniforms, and tactics.

Nothing more convient than a low-intensity conflict to practice new theories from the War Colleges.

Then later, we could not get out, because the CIA was making too much money on the drug trade they controlled....er, I mean the intel ops they ran. Same thing.

19. Crazy
I just love that the content on that page is juxtaposed against a Michelin ad to the right. Very surreal.

5. He's a new NYTimes columnist
and he looks to be 40-ish. At one point in time, in fact fairly recently, he had a decent reputation as columnist, but since starting the NYTimes column he's revealed himself to be a complete PNAC/neocon sympathizer. 9/11 changed everything and all that. Most of the columns have been embarrassingly bad.

injured because our government LIED to us!

I will never forget that our government is very capable of LYING to us and sending people to DIE for a LIE!

12. Vietnam Vietnam Vietnam, we've all been there....
After enough time passed and memory receded and settled, the name itself became a prayer, coded like all prayer to go past extremes of petition and gratitude: Vietnam Vietnam Vietnam, say again, until the word lost all its old loads of pain. pleasure, horror, guilt, nostalgia . (p. 56)

I saw a picture of a North Vietnamese soldier sitting in the same spot on the danang River where the press center had been, where we'd sat smoking and joking and going "Too much!" and "Far out!" and "Oh my God it gets so freaky out there!" He looked so unbelievably peaceful, I knew that somewhere that night and every night there'd be people sitting together over there talking about the bad old days of jubilee and that one of them would remember and say, Yes, never mind, there were some nice ones, too. And no moves left for me at all but to write down some few last words and make the dispersion, Vietnam Vietnam Vietnam, we've all been there. (p. 260)

25. Brooks is the biggest WEENIE of the neo-con clique
He is such a weenie they won't even let him work in the administration. He is the dweeb's dweeb. He's so uncool he's relegated to defending their untenable positions in the press. If you saw him on Jim Lehrer tonight, he had to admit that there were a few too many LIES coming out of the Bush admin that he could not explain.

Brooks is a loser and a schmuck and he has little teeny weeny girlie hands. Look close. Overcompensating.
