Did * have to do community service?
according to http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ Scott McCellan was asked repeatedly whether or not Junior had to do some community service while he was "serving" in the TANG. Of course Scotty didn't give a straight answer. Maybe we are getting to the core of this issue, that the stories of drug busts and yet more string pulling are true?

I assume the "Helen" in the transcript is Helen Thomas. If so Go Helen, you ROCK! :)

Did anyone see this on C-SPAN today?

3. That transcript is hilarious!
Why didn't he just say he didn't know anything about any community service? He started asking Helen why she wanted to know about the community service in the first place, and wound up looking like an asshole and a fool. I don't think Scott is going to last much longer in that position.

12. If it is true and Bush denies it, it's a lie.
If Snotty denies it, it is a cover up.

Snotty's refusal to comment speaks volumes. We know Bush did community service during that period. It is well documented. The only question is whether or not it was voluntary or court ordered. It is pretty obvious from Snotty's obfuscation, that it was court ordered.

14. yup
It looks from this that he was given orders not to answer any questions on this. It's pretty apparent that he must have been forced to perform community service for some crime back then and there must be some people who can confirm it. If he denies it and then it comes out later that he did they are really in for it. If he didn't and it was really baseless it would be simple to say that that was just not true. He wouldn't even answer the question of whether he would ask Bush if he had done community service!

This is getting to be a lot of fun.

There must have been an all night strategic planning session going on

edit to add: He just said that the decisions this president is making are "the right" decisions for the American people. (Couldn't we have the "correct" decisions just once??? LOL )

9. This is an area that the administration doesn't want to talk about.
It was said that junior was busted for cocaine in 1972 - his daddy fixed it with a judge for junior to do community service. (In order to get the arrest expunged from the record.) Where did junior do the community service in the question. Was it at The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston's Third Ward, or was it Project P.U.L.L.?

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/10/18/cocaine/

daddy bush gives much money to Project P.U.L.L. - you can figure it out from there, 'eh?

15. And what about his "lost" driver's license records
as described in this thread? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=1110200

"...Although Texas requires renewal of a driver's license every four years on one's birthday, Bush obtained a new number (a nine digit 000000005) on March 31, 1995 as a renewal instead of on his birthday, July 6, which the texas Department of Motor Vehicles called "highly unusual". Online Journal correspondents Bev Conover and Linda L. Starr also noted in their investigation that in Texas, "every infraction of the law--from a parking ticket to homicide--appears on you Texas Driver's License Detail. It was publicly reported that George W. shot and killed a protected species while bird hunting in 1994 and paid a fin of $130 on September 2,1994. That is the sort of thing that gets listed on a Texas Driver's License Detail, bu it doesn't show up on George W's because when he received a new license in March 1995, the record of paying the fine--along with anything else that was cited--was deleted with his old license number". Ironically, the Texas Department of Public Safety (which issues state driver's licenses is headed by James Byrne Francis, Jr. one the governor's closest friends and fundraisers. (Fortunate Son, Hatfield. FN page 303)...."

You would think this is a legitimate press confererence question, and that the entire matter could be investigated using public records...wouldn't you???

Scott McClellan: What's your interest in that question? I'm sorry, I just --

Scott McClellan: That's why I'm asking what's your interest in that? I just don't understand your interest in that.

Scott McClellan: Well, I'm asking you, what's your interest in that question? I'm just curious, because rumors --

Scott McClellan: Can I answer your question? Sure it is. Can I ask you why you're asking it? I'm just -- out of curiosity myself, is that permissible?

Try this, Mr. McClellan. "Helen is a White House reporter and you are the President's goddam press secretary!"
