We listened for years as the republicans insisted that the Clinton impeachment was NOT about sex with Monica, it was about the fact that he looked American in the eye and LIED about it.


So just remind them...this isn't about the lack of WMD or whether Saddam was or was not a bad man...

IT IS ABOUT THE LIES.

I feel that President Clinton's biggest mistake was the pointing the finger and lieing about the affair ,at the same time I dont believe the ? should have ever been asked ,and when it was,the best thing would have been simple ,no reply and ask next ? please. Its to bad when it comes to these personal type of things that a President cant just say none of your bis. Now ?'s about service to the country and lieing about it while you are sending young men off to die for the country to me is much more relavent. Even through the entire time President Clinton was under attack from the right, he was still able to do a better job then this current pResident is doing with all the help from the media, and getting a pass on one lie after another ! President Clinton will go down as one of the best Presidents in our history ,when you look at his record on job performance, its astounding what he accomplished .Also he always showed extreme tolerance and class ,when dealing with the very people hell bent on running him out of office !

2. President Clinton will go down in history as a president who was

impeached and during Clinton's administration, the Democrats lost:
- 48 seats in the House
- 8 seats in the Senate
- 11 governorships
- 1,254 state legislative seats
- Control of 9 legislatures
In addition 439 elected Democrats had joined the Republican Party while only three Republican officeholders had gone the other way.
While Democrats had been losing state legislative seats on the state level for 25 years, the loss during the Clinton years was striking. In 1992, the Democrats controlled 17 more state legislatures than the Republicans. After November 2000, the Republicans controlled one more than the Democrats. It was the first time since 1954 that the GOP had controlled more state legislatures than the Democrats (they tied in 1968). Among other things, this gave the Republican more control over redistricting.
In fact, no Democratic president since the 19th century suffered such an electoral disintegration of his party as did Clinton.

3. Your Data Is Flawed

You forgot to add back the governorships that went from Repub to Dem while he was in office.

And, historians don't ignore simple things like Americans preferring divided gov't, which is why Reagan didn't have a Repub Congress. A fairly simple fact which you conveniently leave out of the equation.

None of this will matter to historians. NONE OF IT! All that matters, is that at the end of the day, 8 years of relative peace, high world standing, a robust economy (and no, there is no such thing as a bubble economy, so don't even start with that), lower crime rate, increased standard of living, reduced drug use, lower teen pregnancy rate, higher H.S. graduation rates, higher fraction of college students leaving school with degrees, lower truency and dropout rates, budget surpluses, and the lowest number of lawsuits filed against governmental action in the 20th century.

5. I blame talk radio in a big way

they went after Clinton non-stop pretty much 24/7 from the day he walked into the white house. Even before! They have a mega phone and they used it to drum up all kinds of made up scandals. The screamed everyday about everything that Richard Mellon-Scaife could dig up. They were brilliant at it.

And because of their non-stop screaming the major television news media had no choice but to pick up a good portion of their stories. We had no voice whatsoever.

That's beginning to change though. Just look at the AWOL issue. That was nothing even though we have been screaming about it for 4 years. Leave it to Michael Moore to bring it to everybody's attention. He had to go over the top with it by saying deserter because that's the only way you can get anybodies attention.

That's why it's so very important that we start to cultivate our own progressive voices in the media. It's starting slowly.

People don't like to make up their own minds. They like to be spoon fed information and come to a decision based on what they're told is for their own good and it needs to be presented to them in a way that appeals to their emotions. That's what right-wing talk radio did all through the 90's and it's what we have to work on doing for ourselves now.
