Poll question: Should Matt Drudge be outed for being gay?
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 12:21 AM by zulchzulu
There have been many rumors about Matt Drudge being gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

But since he likes to bring out sexual allegations as part of his career, should he be outed as a likewise event? Would the right wing embrace his page if they knew he was gay?

Here's one story about his sexual preference.

http://www.advocate.com/html/news/030200/030200news04.asp

On edit: This is not meant to be homophobic. It is meant to see if he is fair game.

8. Yep.
None of my damn business.

I understand the argument - out him and the right-wingers lose hope, or something.

Problem is, they'll just find another "news" source, and the only thing that will be accomplished is that Matt Drudge is outed. If Drudge is homosexual (and I don't know that he is), then Drudge and only Drudge should have the power to out Drudge. Outing homosexuals against their will is not what I think of when I think of progressive politics. It's not what I think of when I think of tolerance. Attacking gay men isn't my idea of a good plan.

14. Agree but
he is a right wing whore. Many on the right are anti-gay bigots and this would discredit him in their eyes. IF he was anything but a shameless muck-raker and propagandist then I would say his private life is irrelevant, but since he panders to bigots he should be exposed to them as one of the objects of their hatred.

Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 01:33 AM by GTRMAN
You'd think a lot of right-wingnuts would turn on him,but a shitload of the RW is anti-drug,but they have made an exception for pigboy.

Most of the hardcore RW people I know are really into using anyone or anything that serves their personal needs. Rush and Drudge are just another "human resource" to them.(subhuman waste to me)

They'll keep him around as long as they perceive him as useful to their cause.Never mind the hypocracy, that's what wingnuts do best.If he becomes a liability, they'll flush him in a heartbeat.

20. Something else overlooked in 2000
The problem is, even with all of its wacky antics, the Enquirer is known to verify their stories...they've been sued too many times. This fact was said time and again on talk radio and cable news shows (except Fox, of course LOL!) when the Rush story was hitting.

Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 12:24 AM by foreigncorrespondent
...for the purpose of revenge isn't a cool thing to do. And anyone on the left who condones this course of action is no better than the people on the right. The very people we are meant to stand against.

Being gay isn't a weapon, and certainly not something to be used against someone.

Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 12:31 AM by roughsatori
I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay. I think it would be helpful for all the GLBT children to see how many adult people are gay. I would never out someone for revenge though. That is a sick reason for doing so--and would help no one. Aggression feeds aggression.

26. No one should be outed.
It is up to the induvidual if he/she comes out, and no one certainly has the right to out someone for political gain. And if we out Drudge, then guess what? It is only for political gain. Makes us no better than the right.

And believe me, I am very pissed with gay people who choose to remain in the closet when there is no reason too, but I would never stoop so low as to out that person.

Of course, Drudge is a facist and a hypocrite. He must loathe himself. Remember Roy Kohn, McCarthy's little sidekick? Same thing!

But it is wrong to out anyone.

Just wait -- gay marriage is going to be such an issue in this campaign that there will probably be lots of crimes against gays. You know it will happen. We have not seen anything yet compared to how nasty they are going to get.

Can we be be anything other than hypocrites if we expose him, and then complain about the way the right is treating other gays?

Gay DUers, I fear for your safety in the coming year.

28. You're overestimating the intelligence and moral flexibility of most RWers
They wouldn't care that he was gay and it would turn into "Hypocritical, hateful Dems smearing poor Matt Drudge with anything they can get. Censorship, censorship!!!" And the really sad thing is that they'd have a bit of a point.

Absolutely no one has a right to out anyone except the person him or her self. Doing otherwise is contemptable and beneath us.

That is, if he is in fact gay. I think the litmus test is: is the person doing overt harm to the interests of LGB people? If so, I think it's fine within certain limits.

Why? do we have polls asking "should Bill Clinton be 'outed" as a flaming heterosexual?" no we don't, because being hetero is not such a big deal.

So should it be with being Gay.

I don't like Matt Drudge, but his sexuality has nothing to do with that.
I'm not even sure how important the "Jeff Christie" story is anymore.

They become a player when they make allegations and especially so when they make moral/sexual allegations against their enemies. So if this if true? Nail him.

If you're slinging mud don't be surprised if some comes back at you.

EDIT: Please don't think I mean that being gay is "mud", obviously it's not, but sadly it's a weapon against the Right when needed.
