Does Mary Landrieu have short-term memory loss?
I heard on Hardballs tonight that she will support Ohio Sen. Voinovich (R) for re-election if Jerry Springer, potiential Democratic candidate for the Ohio US senate seat, is nominated as his opponent.

Whats up with this democratic senator?????? Backing a republican!!!!

How soon she forgets that she barely got her seat. If it was not for the national democratic effort to get her in that seat she'd be still sitting on the sidelines.

I have had to live with the rath of Voinovich through 8 years as govenor and now the 6 years of the senate....I'ts not been pretty. We in Ohio are in desparate need of a DEMOCRAT.

How dare she cross over in such an ungrateful fashion and damage the democrats who helped her get where she is today.

Just the fact that she is backing a republican in the time we are in a battle for the Senate is absurd....She is a fool.

1. Our Friend Mary
Mary isn't known for her loyalty--be it loyalty to her supporters or loyalty to her friends. . . . She's disgusted me more than once, and if she keeps it up, she'll completely lose ANY support I may harbor for her, just because she's a Democrat.

3. Springer is a despiscable person
I frankly don't blame Landrieu for it. If I lived in OH I would have problems supporting him too, although I would vote for him as I will not vote against a Democrat.

19. Why would a woman vote for a puke against Springer?
Well, come to think of it, I've never seen a puke get up and lead the whole congress in a cheer of "Beat the whore! Beat the Whore!"

26. So lets get this straight
You dont support Springer in the Senate race? Last night you said you dont like Gore either. I am begining to wonder what your motives are.

29. Uh
I voted for Gore and have slammed the Nader extremists here.

You have gall to be questioning my motives. I still am no fan of Michael Moore after what he did to Al Gore.

Anyone here at DU can verify that I have defended Gore and am one of the most anti-Green posters here.

I said I had mixed feelings about a second Gore run. You are taking what I said out of context.

17. How come it is that...
... the Ohio Democratic Party hasn't been able to produce a better candidate than Springer for this office? I realize it's a strongly Republican state, but there's got to be someone more competent and knowledgeable than Springer.

Cheers.

4. I hope that she has to go through Primaries in order to secure
her nomination. I hope that she has to go against a Progressive Democrat.

7. That would be great......
How dare her vocally come out and support a republican in a state she has nothing to do with.....I emailed her a note tonight....

Worst of all, she is a democrat and vocally cheering on a republican is a sin.......

11. A progressive Dem would lose LA.
Landrieu, a moderate, could barely get 50% of the vote with decent turnout. How in the world would a progressive win the general election?

8. Voinovich is the one who caved on the
tax cut after he said he wouldn't.

Did Mary vote for the tax cut?

Be interesting to find out?

And Do you think Jerry would have voted for it?

I don't know enough about Jerry but it seems like he would be better than what you are describing!

9. Thanks for the comforting support.
I didn't follow her in the tax cut vote. I was watching Voinovich....since thats all I've got...At least he kept it down a bit and pisted off *bush enought that *bush came to Ohio to pressure him.....

I just wish she'd say in her own yard and play with her own toys.

10. Cut the woman some slack...she represents LA!
If anyone has a closely divided electorate, it's Landrieu. She can't keep her seat if she doesn't say a few things to make moderate Republicans like her. And, by the way, get a clue. Of course she'd be more than happy to work with a Dem majority. But she can't say so, or she won't get elected herself.

She's throwing Ohio democrats to the wind to make herself look good. It was a poor choice and a shameful one at that.

I am typically very forgiving but I just can't today.....

16. She's probably helping Springer by allowing him to triangulate
Like I said, there's something wrong with the Ohio Democratic Party. If Springer is able to set himself apart from it with the help of comments like Landrieu's (so long as her attitude can be imputed to the state party by proxy or whatever), it might make something click in the heads of a greater number of voters.

Landrieu is helping herself and helping Springer, and this comment is probably calculated to help Springer establish his identity.

13. Ohio and NC, perhaps, have the most incompetent State Dem parties
Ohio should be a solid democratic state, and they have problems winning congressional races in majority dem districts (no?).

A little Jerry Springer is exactly what the Ohio Democratic Party needs to shake them up. I think Springer running is a brilliant move, and if the state party hates it, it raises the question, is their aim to lose statewide races?

20. Point is, he has a better chance than any milquetoast Dem
the Ohio party will be putting up.

The party needs some shaking up and, win or loose, Springer's candidacy is probably just desserts for them.

18. I agree......
I've seen Fingerhut at the Ohio Dem's State Dinner...He has a wet, weak handshake and is a bit creepy.....We need some life in our party for sure. We have a lot of fire but have trouble stoking the embers.

On a local tv news program, they did a spot interview of some prominate Ohioians at a golf match, Johnny Bench and others. All gave good feedback for Springer...I think it suprised the reporter...

Springer made many friends in Cincinnati and Chicago who support him as a business savy guy. Thats enough for me...verses what we have endured with the repukes.....

24. Well, it's all we have now....
and Jerry has bagage for sure and money.....but our options are vacant at this point. I just need a democratic senator in office. I have no one to turn to....

It was so nice in Dayton during the "Celebration of Flight". Ret. Senator John Glenn was here the entire time. Also, I went to a Howard Dean fundraiser and Ret. Sen. Howard Metzenbaum was there too. Thats all we have, retiree's......
