As the justifications by the Bush administration for its preemptive war against Iraq continue to unravel, there is a lingering image that gnaws at me.

I can still see Secretary of State Colin Powell addressing the U.N. Security Council on February 5, 2003.

Remember that speech?

Powell methodically made the case for war. Many of his claims have now been refuted or placed in grave doubt by Dr. David Kay, who recently resigned as chief U.S. weapons inspector. It is now conceivable that the CIA provided more sci-fi artificial intelligence than the real deal. snip

Among, other claims, according to Powell's U.N. address a year ago, the U.S. had satellite photos showing banned materials and equipment. It turns out the specialized equipment, for example, was special only in the sense that it was used for everyday hazardous waste materials and disarming missiles from Gulf War I.
