3. I agree with you 100%
A couple of days ago he had Barney Frank on and I would have liked to hear what went on but not bad enough to support Miller by watching his BS. I feel the same about Ritter. I would love to hear what is said but if it is something earth shattering I'm sure I will hear about it and I refuse to support Miller by watching him.

2. If viewers are lucky, the more intelligent co-host
will do the interview. Let's face it, the monkey has more brains than Dennis Miller. BTW, will the rest of Miller's career (after his show is cancelled for plummeting ratings) consist of addressing right wing rubber chicken dinners? Or will he be the lead act for Ann Coulter?

5. This one could make me watch
Ritter is a no nonsense guy. He's the kind of guy Miller likes to think he is but isn't. Ritter could have Miller looking like a real clown and that is something I would love to see.
:)

13. Thanks a lot. Ritter is an outstanding personality.
Miller won't be up to the task, I'm sure. He has venom, sarcasm, and envy, while Ritter has the truth, and a complete grasp of the situation.

14. with Scott Ritter....
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 04:27 PM by dennis4868
I never have to worry what he is going to say...I know he will stick to the facts and not let Bush off the hook. Ritter simpy brings the facts to the table and you cannot argue against the facts....plain and simple. The problem is when you have dems on TV like the Larry King Show last night when the dems again were so damn spineless i had to stop watching....they basically said we have to move on and make our intelligence community better...WTF? It's like repubs after the whole monicagate story broke saying, "we have to move on and make sure Clinton hides his extramarital affairs better."

15. Er...do you suppose he'll go trashy re:Ritter's 'Albany' smear to help W?
I know it's an ugly difficult issue but this seems to be the early Spring mud-flinging season. W's on the ropes and desperation seems to be in vogue.

I hope Miller talks about WMD issues to gain a little viewership credibility/longevity instead of character assassination. Is that a realistic expectation of him?

22. just say no!
With him having barney frank & scott ritter on, miller's obviously figured out he can't count on his fellow psudo-con cult members to prop up his ratings, so he's looking to the left for help - don't give it to him.

Ritter just totally ripped him apart. i mean he really made him look like a total fool, and you could set simply by the look on his face. He even looked angry because he knew he looked bad.

25. I did.
Scott ripped ol' Dennis a new one. Poor Dennis was practically speechless. Laughable moment...when Miller was trying to get on his high horse about Ritter referring to the war as illegimate. Miller was trying to sound indignant about that...trying to drum up some imginary outrage from the families of the dead servicemen and women in Iraq over Ritter's use of the word illegimate. Miller just sounded like a horse's ass.

and welcome to DU..

Miller had nothing and shot at Scott with Blanks! Miller bitched and whined because Scott called the war illegitimate...He said it was dissing the dead soldiers... Scott ate him up for that...

Miller's all puff.....

27. Let's see, Ritter, a Marine from '83 through '94
was being lectured by chickenhawk Dennis Miller on respecting soldiers. Dennis is a sad, pathetic little man who has taken on this conservative-macho persona, just like Bush, to make himself appear as worthy as other men. He isn't. Real men are not afraid to challenge this administration. There are soldiers in Iraq. And there are "soldiers" in the U.S. Our "army" doesn't wear uniforms. But we do fight for what we believe.

28. You're right. Dennis bit it BIG TIME. Very enjoyable.
He was unequal to the task, He was utterly absurd. Looked simply in the wrong profession: a slow-witted man trying to "trick" a well-prepared person into making a blunder he could exploit.

The show is repeated in two or three hours, for anyone who's interested.

The first part of his show, his monologue, was astonishingly amateurish. It looks as if they are not putting ANY money into the production, including writers. You can use the time to channel surf.

29. Clear tactic on the part of DM. We'd better get hip to it.
I'm on the verge of a new career in sales. I've been studying why people buy, how people's decision making - how they think - changes as they age, etc.

Most voters are older. Women are very susceptable to an emotionally based message. As we age all of us base our decisions on emotion over intellect. In fact, all final decisions are made by the unconscious, emotional side of our brains (the right brain).

DM was hammering away at the right brain. I didn't see all of the interview, but it appeared that Scott Ritter was less effective at this tactic - though he seemed clearly aware of the strategy being used (I mean, I wasn't sure what the hell they were talking about at first what with all those references to "boys and girls", meaning our soldiers.

Please help me to spread the word about the importance of appealing to emotion. When we fail it is almost always because we are the smart ones. The information I cite is very new. We ignore the results of this research at our peril. The pugs have always used emotional appeal to win. It's the way they naturally think. We'd better learn and master that game if we hope to beat Bush. Bush is a complete failure in every way but this one area where is king.

FACTS ARE NOT ENOUGH.

30. i beg to differ
I dont think you become more emotional with age - on the contrary, if you have half a brain you compare the events and people in your life to the current situation and then make a decision.

32. Debate tactics
Most of my experience in debate comes from debating religion. A standard tactic that works in association with emotional appeals is to use seemingly simple questions that require complex explanations. We frequently see this tactic in creation/evolution debates. Typically used in front of an audience that does not understand the more complex concepts it quickly derails experts. Someone like Ritter would be caught by this tactic as they will feel the need to provide the complex answer. All the while they are losing the audience the opposition will continue to play the emotional card thus locking in the audience. Its nasty, deliberate, and effective. Specialists in fields need to be prepped in how to thwart this tactic.

33. Children's prisons??? What's DM point? We have children's prisons here
we call them detention centers or we throw children in prison with adults. You would think that Saddam was the only leader in the world guuilty of atrocities. We even have it codified in our law: "tried as an adult."

37. I have a hunch that Democrats are pretty emotional about now.
You are completely correct and that is why they constantly use these emotional issues eg. Gay Marriage, abortion, religion (prayer in school) etc. They really don't hold up to critical thinking but emotion rarely does. Good Point

36. I would put money on the fact that Miller will bring up...
...the Burger King episode. Scott went underground for a while after it surfaced last winter, and has only recently resurfaced. Since Miller is a Bushbot, I'm sure Rove & Co have spoken to Dennis and asked him to "bury" Scott again with the accusations. Unfortunately, Ritter's explanation last winter was a "no comment," so one would assume he'd say the same again this time, if questioned.

If I were Scott, I'd stick to shows like 360 and Keith Olberman, where the question wouldn't likely come up.
