Poll question: When's the Inquisition? Should we just rename the U.S. "Rep. of Gilead"?
I'm sorry but this stuff is getting out of hand. Of course "Rep. of Gilead" comment is a reference to "A Handmaid's Tale", an American dystopia based on Christian Reconstructionist totalitarian tendencies.

I doubt that it's a dystopia to these folks though...

"A solid majority of the five board members are so gung-ho for their religion that they can't muster any respect for the feelings of those who don't share it. The point of choosing prayers that don't exclude non-Christians evades them."

"Most think it a matter of principle that the name of Jesus be recited publicly before meetings of that elected body. "In Jesus' name we pray" might as well be the official School Board slogan."

A Guardian article about "A Handmaid's Tale"... http://books.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,12084,918465,00.html

Here's a little about Torquemada...

*sigh*

PS~ Please comment on your view as to the appropriateness of these officials.

1. This is frightening stuff...
...I had always thought the next big civil uprising would be class-based. Now I think we might actually have our very own holy war at some point in the not too terribly distant future.

These non-tolerant religious folks are getting completely out of hand. Believe what you want, but don't go impinging on MY rights to think otherwise. Criminy!

3. Here in Kansas
a bill to allow Sunday sales of alcohol was amended by a sate senator to ban Sunday sales because the Ten Commandments say to keep the Sabbath holy. I kid you not, that is the rationale. Separation of Church and State? Not in Kansas!

4. I reiterate ...
... my desire to have the state of Kansas destroyed. WPE move ASAP!

This reminds me of the "Letter to Dr. Laura" in which the author questioned her on numerous other directives in the Bible and how best to follow them in modern times. My favorite was, when selling my daughter into slavery, what do you think is fair market value?

Here is a copy with some funny answers as well:

5. I love that...
But when's the Sabbath? Saturday or Sunday?

Or as the "bible" says: The man was not made for the Sabbath, the Sabbath was made for the man.

Rolling eyes.

7. Sure but...
They forget that the Sabbath is on Saturday.
Bending rules to suit one's own prejudices is very common with this sort.

6. I favor a constitutional amendment
That establishes Alabama as a religous state, exempting them from all the provisions of the Bill of Rights and all federal laws which may conflict with religion. They are permitted to establish a state religion, require a religious test for all state level officials...

I would like nothing more than to get all of the fundies in one place.

8. We'd have to pay to move out the heathens though.
They'd be SOL if you get my drift.
