Poll question: Which "liberal" subgroup is most counterproductive
to the party's popularity to the general public.

I'm not saying that any of thghese froups' positions are wrong, or that I personally disagree with them, but association with some of them might not be the best for the Democratic party.

I wish people could wait until after the election to claim their right to something they've never had!

15. Human rights
One needn't wait until the "proper time" to fight for them. When it comes to human rights, there's no time like the present, and I don't care what "party" suffers for it. A woman's right to vote wasn't the popular stance once upon a time either.

and that you personally don't find fault with or heap scorn upon these "sub-groups". Even though you've included an "other" and "none of the above" option, I think that the whole premise of this poll is counterproductive and a bit divisive.

Which "lucky" sub-group will be the "winner" of this "who's-to-blame" poll? Will this be the group that we unanimously ostracize and scorn?

I always look forward to your posts & polls, Gringo... but this one? Well... I just don't like it one bit.

I can usually spot gags and points being made with sarcasm... it's quite possible that I may have missed it in this case, but this post/poll appeared to be serious.

I'm open to your suggestion, but at this point, I'm not convinced.

18. Well, I'm too muddled to have an agenda here.
I have sympathies with the more moderate elements of all these groups, but we all know how their most extreme elements are used by the right to marginalize ALL of us.

Just as "moderate, fiscal" republicans hate being painted with the fundie nutjob brush, I hate being painted as one and the same as people who spike trees or throw condoms at a church service. I believe that the vast majority of democrats are the same as me. We respect protest, but still want to keep some semblance of a civil society.

11. Big tent!
I welcome every one of these groups into our party. All of them belong here, we are all in this together. Let's have reasonable debates about the best approaches to take. Let's have intelligent policy discussions where we all sit down and plan the best route for our country. We are a big tent.

I went to a rally the other day, and looking at the audience, people of every race, ethnicity, age group, economic class were there. The entire spectrum that is America is represented by this party, and those other guys can't make that claim. Seeing so many people excited to be part of the system, and hoping to make this country great made me so proud to be a Democrat.

Come one, come all. We want you on our team, and we want to march to the future together!

22. Are you feeling the need to launch a purge?
And are trying to determine a target?

I think the most destructive subgroups are the ones who are always trying to get rid of other subgroups they don't like!

23. The ones who want to ban, outlaw, and otherwise get rid of guns
I'm qite convinced we'd get a lot more dem votes if the dems would stop trying to regulate, eliminte, or otherwise impinge on gun-owning rights. Whether these groups REALLY are doing that, the fect remains that the general feeling *out there* is that the Dems DO want to take guns away. And I know people who would otherwise vote Dem, but don't, because they want to keep their guns.

Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 12:56 PM by karabekian
that is the worst subgroup imaginable and is likely responsible for our loss of the house and the senate. If we bacame a party that fough for gun rights and scaled back control measures, we would win and would have a much better chance in the south.
