Investigating the 9/11 Investigation
by Morton Mintz

<snip>
On Meet the Press on Sept. 19, 2002, Moderator Tim Russert asked Dick Cheney about a charge made by then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle "that you called him several times and urged him not to investigate the events of Sept. 11."
"Tom's wrong," the vice president said. "I think in this case – well, let's say a misinterpretation. What I did do was work, at the direction of the president, with the leadership of the Intelligence committees to say, 'We prefer to work with the Intelligence committees.'"

The following Sunday, the senator was Russert's guest. After playing a tape of Cheney's statement, Russert asked Daschle, "Did the vice president call you and urge you not to investigate the events of Sept. 11?" Daschle flatly contradicted Cheney: "Yes, he did, Tim, on Jan. 24, and then on Jan. 28 the president himself at one of our breakfast meetings repeated the request."

Russert persisted: "It wasn't, 'Let's not have a national commission, but let's have the Intelligence committees look into this,' it was 'No investigation by anyone, period'?"

"That's correct," Daschle said. "hat request was made" by Cheney not only on Jan. 24 and by Mr. Bush four days later, but "on other dates following" as well.

5. Its not just the fact that they lie about shit like this that pisses me of
Its the utter contempt and disdain for the public when they tell these lies.

It seems as though Cheney and Rumsfeld et al. are just annoyed and upset that they even have to go through the trouble with lying.

So they lie scornfully, through their teeth and are completely unapologetic about it.

Those motherfuckers let 9/11 happen. Not only that. They did everything in their power to make sure it happened.

6. so arrogant, so brazen
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 04:33 PM by G_j
as a rule arrogance leads to a hard fall. I sure hope that is true in this case. It looks like it might be, but they are completely capable of "allowing" another 9-11 to happen. That's why we can't let up for one moment.

10. Yes....
... I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I'm convinced that this pack of fools is convinced that they had complete and righteous justification to go into Iraq.

Because of WMDs? No. Because Saddam is evil? No. Because of some other reason, probably but not necessarily oil, that they have truly convinced themselves is really in the national interest of the USA.

They know that whatever that reason is, it would not sell to the people of this country and especially to the rest of the world. So they keep up this ruse about the weapons and so forth, and essentially start a hail mary war hoping and praying that it will work out for them.

And yes, they totally resent having to lie about all of it because in their minds they are doing the country a big favor. And if it happens to help them out financially or in some small way - well that is just a happy accident.

If you talk to prisoners convicted of heinous crimes, you will find that a large percentage deny they did anything wrong. They will say "he shouldn't have made a move" or "I just wanted the money, its not my fault the guy flipped". Denial is a powerful construct that we all use from time to time to evade psychic responsibility for our actions. I think we are dealing with denial on a gargantuan scale.

9. You bet the media is afraid
If it comes out about the sheep dog media smothering inquiry into 9-11, the corporate media is doomed as well as the administration that turned a blind eye.

The corporate media is in this too.

11. That's why when the dam finally breaks
all hell is going to be let loose.

This scandal is not just the WH, or even just the US, it is global and includes almost every government and intelligence agency in the world, the US media, and the military. A lot of people are going to go down with Bu$h and it's not going to be pretty.

12. A Total Failure my U.S. media
the mainstream U.S. media has, with the small exceptions of people like Gail Sheehy and a few others, TOTALLY FAILED in what they claim is their purpose...

to inform the American people.

They are complicit in a cover up of the events surrounding 9-11 and they, too, should have to face all the family members who lost loved ones on that day,

as well as the rest of us who lost our democracy...starting with the soft coup of 2000 and sealed when the second plane hit the WTC.

13. I'm happy that he media has finally
taken it upon themselves to address the AWOL issue, but that is nothing when compared to the 9-11 cover up. The media, more than just being seen as a miserable failure, should be considered part of the cover up.

15. The media stood down!
Or perhaps I'm unfamiliar with Standard Operating Procedure for investigative journalists.
