Anyone else hear that US casualties are underestimated by half?
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 09:36 AM by BlueEyedSon
I forgot where I saw this, but this is a story that should have legs.

Apparently, if a medic comes to the aid of a soldier, but that soldier is already dead, he is classified as Fatality, a KIA. If the soldier is alive but dies in a hospital a week later - or even a few minutes later - he is classified as wounded.

The article claimed that the true number of dead American soldiers is about 1100.

Any links and/or supporting info would be appreciated.

3. have heard this but seen nothing substantial
although there was a republican congressman who was asking questions about the injured in Iraq a month or so ago, what was his name?
I think he was concerned with the accuracy of our dead and wounded too but I could be mistaken

5. I don't know about that...
high of a number, but maybe. i do know they are only reporting the dead, the KIA, as you said. I know the number of wounded, injured, paralyzed, etc. is much much higher. Just because a person is not dead, does not mean they are not a wreck physically and mentally and may never lead a normal life again.

7. Oh yes, I actually questioned this last summer.
The deaths so not reflect the ones who perish off the battle field. I would be impressed with any reporter who sinks their teeth into the reality of this massacre.

The media talks about the injured like amputees but none who are with severe head/brain trauma......

They are keeping the real facts of the war injuries and deaths a great big secret.

9. Russert noted wounded at 3,000, PBS/NOW said 11,000.
I don't know what gives. Wish I had time to track it down.
