4. Amazing Colin Powell quote this morning

Imus had Andrea Mitchell on the phone this morning, who had a draw-dropping quote from Colin Powell. Apparently some years ago, Powell complained about the rich kids in the Vietnam War who had access to joining the Guard, knowing they would not have to serve in Vietnam, and this eroded the sense in America of a common citizenship that shares its responsibility for service. (Can't remember his exact words.) This was being described against a video backdrop of Powell lashing out at the hill staffer and the congressman.

Powell has had to tow the party line a lot. Even when it seemed opposite to his personal view.

It seemed like he was still against going to war a week before he appeared before the UN to plead the case FOR war.

It seemed like Condi was also opposed to the war. That may be why her comments seem so unbelievable, she doesn't believe them either but because she has sold her soul to work at the White House, she has to say what the White House tells her to say. Another one of Rove's puppets.

Dubya does not respect opposing opinions, he eliminates them.

8. Powell's Non-Answer

I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I couldn't help notice that Powell wouldn't slap down the remark other than the initial "You don't know what you're talking about" crack...then after that, it's "don't go there". I got the read that he isn't too happy about this story coming out and he can't defend his boss without compromising himself beyond the amount he's already stretched.

Colin doesn't look like a happy camper these days. It's obvious now he's out of the loop with this regime except when they need to trot him to do some dirty work. Last week, still very under-reported, was his repudiation of the WMD crap he spewed to the U.N. last year...a major pretext in selling the invasion, and a testy diplomatic world where he's the only buffer between the manchild and the rest of the civilized world.

No pity here for Powell. I used to respect him, and thought he may be a moderating factor on this regime. It didn't happen and he went merrily to war for Haliburton and corporate America against their own people. Shamefull! Let him twist!

is an opportunistic moron that will take whatever side is popular at the moment. If by some act of gawd, Bush came out with papers that proved he flew everyday of his TANG enlistment, Imus would be blowing him on tomorrow's show.
I can't stand listening to him, he's just another whore in my book.
