Iraq Watch on C-Span
Congressmen Strickland and Delahunt are no C-Span right now at 8:10 PM Central Time discussing the previous Bush administration's blocking of sanctions against Iraq in the late 1980s. The dirty laundry is starting to finally get aired. Now if only the press picks up on it.

5. This group has been at it for months.
Speakers vary, but they have been vocal and forceful about the crap Bush* has put us through in Iraq.

I wish somebody in the media would cover these sessions...they are powerful to listen to.

7. Coverage still going on in central time zone
The three Democratic Congressmen -- didn't yet catch the name of the third one -- are still on here. They are really building a case against Bush I, Rumsfeld and Powell. They are now talking about how it was the US who sold the necessary computer technology needed to design a whole range of WMDs from missles to nuclear weapons between 1985-1990.

8. Chemical weapons against Kurds
Delahunt says Hussein used chemical weapons in 1988 against Kurds who had allied themselves with the Iranians. He stated the US remained silent when we should have immediately implemented sanctions and brought Saddam to trial.

He is now talking about the fact that Iraq had no WMDs and that the UN inspectors were doing their job.

"We are creating alliances with tyrants who will be as bad as Hussein," referring to the head of Uzbekistan. "He's a tyrant and a hug and we are in bed with him."

Same with the leader of Turkmenistan. "He is a certifiable nut!"

"What are we doing? We are making the same mistake."

9. Third Iraq Watch Congressman is Jay Inslee (D-Wash)
America's servicemen and their families deserve an explanation of how we went to war based on false premises, Inslee says.

Refers to article in the Seattle Times, that the administration significantly distorted the intelligence.

The Intel reports given to White House were filled with doubt about Iraq's WMD. He's quoting article which quotes report by US State's intelligence arm.

10. yowza, best TV in AGES
They are saying they did not have the same info Bush had when they voted for the war.

Great comment: "we can't even find out who Cheney met with on the energy panel" how can they assume we had the scoop on WMD.

WHY IS THIS NOT FRONT PAGE NEWS????

What is this anyway? A standing committee?

16. Iraq Watch is a group of Dems who meet weekly
in after-hours sessions to talk about issues surrounding the Iraq war. It's usually on Tuesday nights. Strickland is not usually there, but Sherrod Brown, also from Ohio, usually is. Also Rahm Emanuel from Illinois and Abercrombie from Hawaii. Occasionally Sheila Jackson Lee from Texas participates.

These are absolutely well worth watching if for no other reason than to know that there ARE Dems who have been speaking out, consistently and strongly. It's just a shame the media has paid absolutely no attention.

But do try to catch them on C-Span...usually about 9 PM Eastern on C-Span. Well worth watching.

11. Strickland Contradicts Bush's Meet the Press Statements
Strickland and Delahunt say they did not have access to the same intelligence Bush had. They were not aware of the doubts expressed by US intelligence services.

Inslee is quoting US Air Force analysis of Iraq's UAV technology that also contradicts the 2003 State of Union that the unmanned aerial vehicles could be used to spread chemical and biological weapons over America.

"We deserve more than what a car salesman would tell you!"

12. Did you see
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 09:52 PM by JMac
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) ripped the Administration a new ass. He went on about the Iraq quagmire, Patriot Act, and also let the Neo-Cons have it. He covered almost everything I could think of that needed to be said. Ive been watching for a few hours.

edit: spelling

13. How Dick Cheney Sold the War... Newsweek cover
Delahunt shows blow up magazine cover. He mentions that Cheney is still telling the same story about the two mobile hydrogen gas trailers, that they were mobile weapons labs, which the CIA and others have long since abandoned.

Cheney, he says, was out to find evidence to support an "ideology."

The world has a right to know the process why which Cheney formed his views and framed his evidence.

They are now adjourning.

15. I hope that a press which seems to seek vindication,...picked up on this!!
I believe the press has felt "hamstrung" and has been feelin' its oats. I hope it picked up on this,...and further feeds its wheels of vindication :D
