Bush's Good Conduct Medal?
Someone who served in either the Reserves or National Guard plese tell me something. When I was in the army ('67-'70) unless you screwed up somehow (a couple of days AWOL or some such crap) once every two years they gave you a Good Conduct Medal. A green thing with white stripes. Hell, everyone got them. Did you guys get them too? If so, where is Bush's?

3. I thought the Good Conduct Medal was red with white stripes.
Aren't the green ones the "Commendation medals"? You guys would know better than me, I'm just a memorabilia enthusiast.

4. I don't about the colors...
Navy's solid red... and only awarded to enlisted men. When I first signed up, it was one every 4 years; it changed to one every 3 in 96. I've got 5. And all it means is that you were never caught. "4 years of undetected crime" is what we called it.

8. The Army GCM is red w/3 white stripes, centered...
each subsequent award is signified with a 'knot device', bronze, until you get 5 of them, then the knots become silver. They are awarded only to enlisted members, Officers are not eligible, and you serve 3 years for each award. (Officers are expected to under 'good conduct' at all times, hence the enlisted designation. Think of Ollie North, or Lt Cally getting one of these!)

I'm not sure about other branches, but the NG and Reserves have their own ribbons/medals for GC. Some states have awards as well. But ALL are enlisted decorations, and there are certain time frames that must be met. You can't go in for 20 days and get a GCM.

BTW: The Army Commendation Medal, ARCOM, is green w/ 3 centered white stripes, and white borders. Subsequent awards are designated by Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; a 'V' Device can be added for Valor.

9. Good Conduct Medals were NOT for officers (at least not when I served)
in the military (both active and reserve) from 1985-1992.
