BOB BARR opposes the Federal Marriage Amendment?

This is quite a suprise, but I'm not complaining!

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., has predicted the amendment will fail in Congress, despite polls showing public antipathy to gay marriage. Most Democrats oppose the amendment, and so do some conservatives, notably former Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, who authored the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits federal benefits such as immigration to gay couples. Barr has argued that federal intervention in marriage laws, which he called "a quintessential state issue," violates states' rights.

3. An exception

Bob Barr is rare exception. He is so vehemently states rights that this actually makes sense. Plus he is also working with ACLU against the USA PATRTIOT I believe. So him working with liberals to reach his own ends isn't new.
