SSGT in Baghdad says Bremer's Halliburton guards cost $650 per man daily
If the government is looking for overcharging, it should look no further than the security team for L. Paul “Jerry” Bremer, the presidential envoy to Iraq and CPA administrator. I mean, $650 a day per man to guard this guy when my unit, the 170th Military Police Company, do most of his security? Anyway, I was just wondering how much of the $87 billion for the war in Iraq is going toward this overcharging.

1. I'm not surprised
I'm sure "Contractor 101" is for Contractor employees to not tell the troops or the press how much they are making.

3. A friend of mine was offered $400,000 a year TAX-FREE
with a FREE place to live, meals provided, transportation provided, and 3 round trips back to the USa.. to work in Iraq..

He thought long and hard about it since he's in his late 50's and that would have helped retirement a lot, but he turned it down because his wife has a heart condition and he could not bear to leave her behind and be so far from her..

I don't know the details, but he was a few days awy from actually going, when he said..nope:)

4. That's what happens when you 'privatize' govt.
Costs escalate out of control and you get less for your money with no oversite. But, at least Halliburton is making a 15% profit on the $650 this guy is making. They made nothing on the Army private he replaced who was making $100/day.

8. When u can charge whatever you want, you tend to "push the envelope"
Isn't that why monopolies are illegal?

9. Is it known that the markup is 15%?
Halliburton gets to charge cost plus a percent, but have any reputable newspapers written that it is 15 percent?
