International apologies
I had an idea. tell me what you think.

I purpose we come up with a nice formal apology letter directed the citizens of the globe in which we apologize for the actions of our leader. We can remind them that America is a Democracy and at times thing can get out of hand.

Once we get a a nice letter together, we can ask each person to email it to any friends he.she may have that are of international origin as ask them to forward it to any friends they may have of international origin.

Any thoughts on the contents of the letter or the idea itself?

1. Awesome idea ... I've thought of that myself a lot ever since 2000
I could write a good one, but not so sure who would ever see it.

4. OK ...May take a little time...got my hands full at the moment ...
But this idea has been on my mind for a long time. I saved the e-mail address though and I'll start it soon. Thanks. I know we're not the only ones on it, but it sure needs to happen. Especially if it comes from an average citizen, rather than a group or institution with an agenda.

6. Morally good idea, but politically bad
The Repukes want to play up the fact that Shrub will do anything to "protect" the US, even if it means pissing off those troublesome foreigners. He won't let foreigners "determine" how and when the US defends itself. He won't put our defenses to a vote. He's such a strong leader (gag).

They'll try to play any Democratic apology to the world as weak. The Dems will let France decide if we can defend ourselves! Oh, my!

Let's dump this sick crowd, then we can apologize for his four years of misrule.

7. good idea and
we could get it printed up in some foreign newspapers and ask them to investigate what's going on over here since our media's been so slow on the uptake - maybe they can help us stage a coup to get our country back.

8. why? the American people are largely blind to all of the
horridness of the US government as it wills things across the globe. Most people in the world don't hate Americans (except the rude, arrogant, flashy ones that I as an American also hate). They hate the American goverment. They hate American foreign policy.

We should not cast ourselves as apologetic to the world. We try our hardest. The people signing the letter are trying to speak for the government over which they have no real accountability.

We need to change regimes and THEN the US President should offer formal apologies on behalf of state department and other groups responsible for absolutely abominable foreign relations with allies.

That would be a HUGE start.

9. its more of a statement to the American people
I guess the hope would be to get as much exposure as possible from the international media by attempting to show that America isn't crazy but that its locked in a struggle. This of course would piss republicans off(which is fine by me) and help show the middle folk that their secret peaceful thoughts are not alone.

10. I guess I see your point. they do see us as "monolith of stupidity"
rather than a fractured group right now who are pitted against one another in idealogical warfare.

11. I say wait. Bush will be voted out and nothing can top that as a "letter"
to foreign countries. If he wins, then a letter would be more appropriate, although it would be hard to explain voting him in AFTER learning what a monster he is.
